~ Slow Sunday Stitching ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk ~
and a happy Sunday to us all....

~ our  day will be a rainy one,
with grey clouds and a bit of a chill in the damp air.

and on to Slow Stitching!
we all {mostly} know the concept of slow stitching...
methodical, mindful {or not} stitches made in small areas at a time using recycled,
old, new, used, worn fabrics and threads of all-sorts.

~  now this is something that excites me LOL ~

I do follow a few Instagram, Pinterest & Youtube accounts for slow stitching,
and I'll share them with you at the end of this posting, if you're so-inclined.

here are a few photos that I've borrowed from Pinterest,
showing some of my favorite projects that have been posted there:

and now for a few snaps of what I'll be working on today using Slow Stitch...

all I need to do is add thread!

~ I know it's not for everyone...
and to some it looks unfinished,
done by untrained hands,
'too' primitive or even messy.

but to me,
it is beautiful. poignant. intriguing...
easy but challenging and frees oneself from the constraints of perfection-ism.
nothing wrong with frayed edges and loose threads.
faded colors and age-spots and stains are fine.
wrinkles are perfect and show character.

each stitch taken should be mindful, carefully placed and thought upon.
stitch your feelings into your cloth and relax a while.

does Slow Stitching have to be pretty? nope.
is it supposed to make sense? only to you.
is there a right or wrong way to do it? I don't think so, you do you.

so give it a try.

gather your supplies:
a sewing basket or bag to keep your things in
{or better yet, MAKE a bag!}

sharp needle, blunt tipped needle, sharp scissors, chalk, pencil, frixion pen {heat erasable}
lots of threads and lots of fabric scraps.
and don't forget to include
your imagination......

here are the links promised and I do hope you visit them:

~ crochet-ing ~

 Good morning Friends & Folk ~
and a very happy but extremely COLD Saturday to us all!

I am hoping you are all keeping cozy, snugging up your homes with fires and baking...
and keeping your hands busy and warm!

I am doing just that...
oatmeal raisin cookies are baking, the woodstoves are piping and the kettle is steaming ~
and my hands are warmed by crocheting another granny scarf.

I went to Michael's yesterday and filled my buggy up with yarn
{they were having a BOGO 1/2 off sale}

this yarn below is what I chose to make my scarf...
Lion Brand - Wool Ease
80% acrylic
20% wool
in the color 'Coney Island'
the label called for a N-13 hook, but
~  I'm using an H hook since this is a super-bulky yarn

but just look at those colors!!

the variations in colors work up so nicely,
and because the yarn is so bulky my stitches are fast.

the beautiful granny square afghan on the back of my chair below,
~ was made by my friend Janice Wright

here are the other skeins that I purchased...
just a whole pile of happy yarn goodness just waiting to be turned into something fun!

wishing you a day filled with warmth in your heart
and creativity for your hands!!

~ Lucky O'Green ~

 Hello Friends & Folk!
here's another little cross stitch design for you.....
☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘ ☘

"Lucky O'Greene" ~ designed by Lori Brechlin for Notforgotten Farm™
....oh what a kindly little fellow, all bedecked in his dandy tophat & very best coat-tails! ~
{{and look!! --- he has a couple of bunches of shamrocks for you to make wishes upon}}

another small, quick-to-stitch design for you to display...
I chose to frame mine in a 5" x 7" frame that I painted black, but you could also finish yours
into a sawdust-filled pillow like my Carrot Top or Cinder Klaus patterns {see their separate listings}

my model shown in photo was stitched using DMC threads, one strand of floss over two threads onto natural Osnaburg which I walnut stained.
{{{ natural Osnaburg can be found in most fabric shops or other stores carrying quilters fabrics and/or utility fabrics...}}}

More new cross stitch is one the way my friends!
Thank you for your kind support and friendships...

~ Chicken Brooch ~

 Hello Friends & Folk ~
and a very happy, sunny & bright Monday to us all!

well, i finished another little brooch....
I am enjoying creating them and I'm so happy that you love them too!
thank you for your purchases of the ones I listed in my Big Cartel Shop
https://goodsfromnotforgottenfarm.bigcartel.com

this brooch I will be keeping, though ~ as I never keep things for myself.
she will be worn proudly and will accompany me on many adventures!

this is another full-coverage brooch,
worked in split stitch using Valdani 3 ply cotton floss.

~ Osnaburg is my choice for the ground cloth,
as it has a perfect weave {for me}.

...many hours, many little stitches...
many thoughts, feelings and memories in each finished brooch.

Hoping your day is filled with many little things that make you smile!

~ Carrot Top ~ NEW Cross Stitch Pattern

Good Morning Friends & Folk!
~ and a very happy COLD Wednesday to us all...

I've just listed a brand new, 1st of the New Year cross stitch pattern for you
in my Etsy shop

"Carrot Top"

another one of my smaller, quick-to-stitch cuties ~
stitched on Osnaburg using one strand of floss over two threads of cloth...
 ....look at his sweet little face!

I finished the project into another sawdust-stuffed pillow,
and stitched an additional tiny carrot, just in case he gets hungry.

🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕
 Have you still not tried cross stitching on Osnaburg??
available in most every fabric shop, or big box store like Walmart & Hobby Lobby ~
it comes in 'natural' & 'bleached', but I prefer the naturaul and I stain/dye mine with a walnut dye, tea & coffee mixture...I also toss in some ground cloves and cinnamon too ❤

it is much easier than you think, if you stitch on linen, then you're already good at it!
I prefer use a good hoop to hold the fabric taught...

as you might tell,
I am a right-to-left, full cross cross stitcher!
meaning,
I begin my work in the lower right corner and stitch right to left,
completing each cross as I go...
surface stitching is FUN & fast!

I also love using Ball-Tipped cross stitch needles when I cross stitch.
I get mine directly from Sullivans.com ~

...now you may love or hate these needles,
but for me personally, they are a game-changer.
they don't splice fabric or floss threads, and the ball tip is so small
that it truly does glide through the open weave of my cloth...
{{ plus, they can't stab you . lol. }}

kindly forgive my farmwife hands & nails)

ok! well, that's it for  today...
I have to get back to stitching!

{{{ I'm working on a seasonal series of four small,
cohesive cross stitch patterns that I hope you will love as much as I do! }}}
and sneak peeks of the first one in the series will be shared with you soon
on Instagram & FB
