~ A New Design Finish! ~

 Hello Friends & Folk ~
I have finished my latest work in progress!

Here is
' Possessed by the Needle '

the inspiration for this design came about one day
while Joan & I were having a conversation about something-or-another...
{can't remember what} and she suggested this.

and I thought it would make a great little stitch!
it reads:
possessed by the needle
enchanted by the thread
Elezabeth Curtiss   Her Work 1782
Stratford. Conn.

the name Elezabeth Curtiss is one from my hometown of Stratford, CT {Conn.}
the strange spelling of her name is what drew me to it,
and dear Elezabeth was the daughter of one of the town's founding fathers.

I chose to include a squirrel & acorn ~
as my Mom feeds many of the neighborhood squirrels in Stratford...
as well as a brown headed Cowbird holding a needle sitting atop a potted fern.
Also the initials E.C. and a few generic motif of flora & fauna ~

The darker lettering is stitched over one ~
because I love to stitch over one and love how it ages my work.

I also added a cartouche of vines that holds a pumpkin
& a kettle and teacup just for fun.

don't you love the little ladye's festive dress and tophat?
she holds a tiny wreath in her hands...

a simple sampler begs for an un-fussy finish,
so I chose to add a backing of black reproduction Civil War era calico,
and brought the edges to the front of the sampler and stitched them down...

here are the particulars:
Linen ~ 32ct Tin Roof from Weeks Dye Works
Threads:
WDW ~ Kohl, Bullfrog, Havana, Pelican Gray, Lichen, Sand, Caper
GAST ~ Pumpkin Pie

I am in the midst of charting this now,
and will provide a stitch count for it once it is listed in my Etsy shop ~
{hoping to release it Friday evening}

 Hoping you love it as much as I do!

~ Thread Tales ~

 Good Morning
~  Friends & Folk ~

and happy dreary Monday to you all!
dreary days mean great stitching days here in these parts ;)
{any day really, but I love the coziness of the farmhouse on rainy days}

Do any of you do this:

do you save your minuscule snips of thread in pretty glass jars like I do?
{oh, you're not as crazy am I are you?}

I save them for the birds ~
how I love to see fallen or abandoned nests that have my threads
& wool snippets woven intricately through them.

my sampler in progress is officially named:
"Possessed by the Needle"
and those words were shared with me by Miss Joan ~
we agreed they would make for a great sampler...

I have just one more motif to go,
then will begin working on the border.

"Possessed by the Needle,
Enchanted by the Thread,"
Her Work 1792
Elezabeth Curtiss
Stratford, Conn. {CT}
{town/state name to be added too, I forgot!}

Hoping your day is a lovely one, enjoy the sun or the rain!
