~ New BEES, Old BEES ~ and Garden Thingies ~

 Hello hello Friends & Folk!

it is a Thursday evening...high winds and low temps here on the farm tonight.
April is being finicky and FICKLE for sure!

we have wonderful growth in our gardens, but the colder temps of the past 2 nights
~ are not being friendly to delicate blooms and buds.
...Fingers & toes crossed that all will survive!!

I wanted to share two new designs with you...
 this is
"The Bee Kind"
{Be kind to the BEE kind"

~and~
"Plant & Weed Quartet"

these {above} will be available tomorrow 4/23
in our Etsy shop, as both PDF and Mailed patterns...

 Do you LOVE bees ???????
{ or beekeeping, honey, knowing that by digesting honey you are supporting local beekeepers, treating your body to one of the very 1st-known natural antibiotics/healing agents., a natural humectant for your skin, an Earth-born gift that without we would perish from the planet???}

I love bees. Peter & Hannah & I kept bees for a short time when we first moved here to VA in 2003...we weren't successful, as our queens kept wanting to waylay to other lands...
we let them go, feeling they knew better than we ~ and have since been blessed by visits of offspring from our original hives each year ~

the tender and gentle workers perch on my fingertips as though they 'know' me...
I have been known to sing to them, and they, in turn, dance for me.

Between stitches,... I watch them flit from flow'r to flow'r ~ gathering their pollen to feed their young ~
knowing that we, in some small way are helping our neighbors gardens and crops come to fruition...

eating local honey has helped my allergies immensely also.

As a needlework designer, my love for bees creeps in.

here is a smattering of my earlier designs that include my beloved BEE-Friends:

"Blessed Bee' Punch needle

"Bee Good" punch needle

"Birds & Bees" punch needle

"BUZZbee" punch needle

"The Bee Sampler" cross stitch

"Keeping the Bees" punch needle

"Give Bees a Chance" cross stitch

~ Early Morning Stitching ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk!
Happy Friday to us all...
a glorious day for our neck of the woods....warm temps, slight breeze.
actual MAY WEATHER!!

It wasn't bright enough to stitch
when I woke this morning ~
{{ but I had a little help from my little owl lamp... }}

many more stitches to go on this,
my 'Mary Black's Epitaph' sampler ~
I have the rest of the wording to stitch, then on to motifs and date...
then finally the border will be worked!

you may remember,
this was a design that has been in my computer for a few years ~
and was never fully charted...so I am winging it as I stitch it now,
~ just adding things from my imagination.
 {something I love to do }

using some of my favorite fonts for the lettering ~
and making up more as I go.

the sun was coming up as I began taking photos...
I love the soft morning light on my wood floors
here in this old farmhouse.

a favorite pair of chartreuse Bohin scissors ~ purchased at one of my favorite LNS:
In Stitches Needlework in Alexandria VA

and a favorite fob from
Victoria Gable at www.stitchnbutton.etsy.com
{ don't know what I love more about this one, the amethyst-colored gems,
the bone crescent moon or the dangly little broom at the end!}

sun is up!
on with the day...
chores to do, then back to my stitching chair.

what are your plans for this beautiful day?

~ The Beginning ~

 Good morning friends!
and a happy Tuesday to us all ~
we lost power for several hours last night due to the high winds we've been having...
thankful that has died down and now hoping for some true May-like weather!

My farm chores are finished,
and I have begun working on a sampler that I charted 4 years ago...
{{ it has been living in my computer and back of my brain
for that long and really needs to be set free! }}

I chose my linen, a beautiful soft and old-looking color
a Zweigart-based linen called Vintage Light Examplar from
Lakeside Linens & Designs, Inc.

a very paled-yellowish linen with subtle hints of staining...
just beautiful and perfect for my next project!

the threads that I will be working with are different for me...
I chose Valdani cotton floss ~ two are solid and one is variegated:

these are in 3-ply {strand} balls,
and I will most likely stitch this with one strand
{maybe two} but definitely not all 3...

#234 ~ Khaki Olive {solid}
#8121 ~ Brown/Black Light {solid}
&
#H212 ~ Faded Brown Heirloom {variegated}

Oh!
 I almost forgot to mention the name of this design:
"Mary Black's Epitaph"
~ ✵ ✶ ✷ ✸ ✹ ✸ ✷ ✶ ✵ ~

I'll share progress as soon as I have some more x's crossed!

~ And we have a Windy Day Finish! ~

Howdy friends & folk...

it has been SO wickedly-windy here today,
I feel bad for any little witch out there trying to commute on her broomstick!

it's been a good day to stay in and finish this though...

"Sylvia Thistlebroom" ~ Whisk Broom Cover
{ain't she sweet?}

quick to stitch, easy to finish...
with the help of my Whisk Broom Cover Finishing Pictorial that I made just for you!
{see the link on my sidebar to your right, and click on it!}

I opted to use an antique child's broom for my finish, but a whisk broom is another option...

Paper & PDF Downloads are ready to fly!
and don't forget ~ our #Stayhomeandstitch sales are still going strong!

~ All we are Saying....

...is Give Bees a Chance!

{and I know you sung that in your head while you read it! lol}
Here is another fun little motto-stitch/sampler from Notforgotten Farm™
I have been wanting to stitch this saying for a while, and went about doing just that, finally ~
I love the way it turned out, the colors and motifs just work together so well.

I stitched the model onto 35/36 count Osnaburg ~
it is an uneven weave fabric that gives an old fashioned look to my work.
Osnaburg can be found in most craft stores, in the Utility Fabric section,
near the burlap/muslin, etc...

Stitch Count: 106w x 60h
All DMC Threads
Stitched one strand of floss over 2 threads of ground fabric {osnaburg}

Now Available in ouyr Etsy Shop ~
AND is included in our Quarantine Sale going on now!

~ Motto Samplers ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk ~
and a happy, sunshiney Sunday to us all...

 I have been working on a few smallish motto samplers lately ~
{you may remember seeing the one in the larger hoop on my Hoop'n Tray Needlework Stand}.

this one is being stitched on 35ct 'Cornsilk' from Weeks Dye Works
~ using DMC threads, 2 over 2.
I charted this design using my software ~ and should be finished soon...

the wind has kept me mostly stitching in the farmhouse,
but today I will try to work out on the front porch ~

this little motto sampler I have not charted yet, but simply working from my mind's eye ~

the ground fabric for this one above is plain old osnaburg, with the cotton seeds in it ~
{I prefer to call it cupboard cloth and I occasionally sell it in my Etsy shop}
which is an uneven weave of 35/36 count.
oh, and I'm using DMC threads for this too, 1 over 2.

do you like my needleminder? ~ it is a mother of pearl dove,
something that I have had in my button jar for a long time,
and a while ago I decided to glue on some rare-earth magnets to use it to hold my needles...

what are your favorite needles to cross stitch with?
mine are absolutely the Easy-Glide Ball Tipped needles
available from from Rachelle at TheCottageNeedle on Etsy...

I have 26's & 28's {green & blue caps}
and I also have ball tipped embroidery needles that I adore too! {yellow cap}

click on the pic below for a really good close up of the tip of the needles...

a few of my narcissus that Peter picked for me last weekend
are still doing well in their glass vase...they smell heavenly!

Wishing you all a peaceful and creative day my friends.
