~ New BEES, Old BEES ~ and Garden Thingies ~

 Hello hello Friends & Folk!

it is a Thursday evening...high winds and low temps here on the farm tonight.
April is being finicky and FICKLE for sure!

we have wonderful growth in our gardens, but the colder temps of the past 2 nights
~ are not being friendly to delicate blooms and buds.
...Fingers & toes crossed that all will survive!!

I wanted to share two new designs with you...
 this is
"The Bee Kind"
{Be kind to the BEE kind"

~and~
"Plant & Weed Quartet"

these {above} will be available tomorrow 4/23
in our Etsy shop, as both PDF and Mailed patterns...

 Do you LOVE bees ???????
{ or beekeeping, honey, knowing that by digesting honey you are supporting local beekeepers, treating your body to one of the very 1st-known natural antibiotics/healing agents., a natural humectant for your skin, an Earth-born gift that without we would perish from the planet???}

I love bees. Peter & Hannah & I kept bees for a short time when we first moved here to VA in 2003...we weren't successful, as our queens kept wanting to waylay to other lands...
we let them go, feeling they knew better than we ~ and have since been blessed by visits of offspring from our original hives each year ~

the tender and gentle workers perch on my fingertips as though they 'know' me...
I have been known to sing to them, and they, in turn, dance for me.

Between stitches,... I watch them flit from flow'r to flow'r ~ gathering their pollen to feed their young ~
knowing that we, in some small way are helping our neighbors gardens and crops come to fruition...

eating local honey has helped my allergies immensely also.

As a needlework designer, my love for bees creeps in.

here is a smattering of my earlier designs that include my beloved BEE-Friends:

"Blessed Bee' Punch needle

"Bee Good" punch needle

"Birds & Bees" punch needle

"BUZZbee" punch needle

"The Bee Sampler" cross stitch

"Keeping the Bees" punch needle

"Give Bees a Chance" cross stitch

www.Notforgottenfarm.etsy.com is our Etsy shop address ~
all paper/PDF patterns & Books are 20% OFF ~

thank you for visiting, come by again soon & Blessed be!

~ Gardens, Cotton & Silk and Stitching~

Good Morning Friends & Folk ~
and a very happy, sunny Sunday morning to us all!

...the pollen count in our area is so high!
~ there is a film of yellow/green dust on everything.

but that won't keep me from being outside as much as I can,
soaking up the sun {and sneezing!}

I'm taking my Nettle tincture to help alleviate the itchy eyes and scratchy throat,
and putting Vaseline inside my nostrils {ew.} to keep the pollen at bay...
{hey! it really works!!}

I love seeing the colors in my gardens...
purples, yellows and greens.

I have to share with you my gorgeous full thread palettes from

I received them in yesterdays' mail ~
oh my stars.....

the cottons....so saturated and lovely ~
 every color under the rainbow!

and the silks....soft and luxurious ~
I cannot wait to stitch with them!

and, speaking of stitching...
I will be re-stitching the model for my
'Eliza Phelps' sampler.

I designed her in 2008, and either sold or lost the model...
she is charted using DMC cotton threads,
but I think you know how I will stitch her now {Classic Colorworks!}
and will have the DMC conversion in the new chart as well ~

Here is a great conversion for DMC to Classic Colorworks from

"Eliza Phelps 1860...
little Eliza loved the village she and her family lived in ~
notice she even included her Church and Home..."

Hoping you have a wonderful Sunday my friends...

~ Early Morning Stitching ~

 Good Wednesday Morning
Friends & Folk...

another beautiful Spring morning here at the farm ~

the earth is greening and the birds are twitterpating!
buds are budding and blooms are blooming...
always an exciting time of year, to see what new plantings come up,
after a cold Winter.

Per usual,
I am stitching.
 {shocking!}
and am starting on a new design for a woman's sewing pocket ~

I have made/designed pockets in the past,
and thought I might share a few of them for you here:

 "Dove Basket" ~ embroidery

"Ruthy's Sampler Pocket" ~ cross stitch

"Jacks' Sweet Bag" ~ cross stitch

and

"Sparrow's Pocket" ~ UNcounted cross stitch

these pockets/bags are so easy to make, really...
they look harder than they are to finish!

I love using them in my seasonal decor to hold natural drieds/feathers/etc...

So the one in progress is being worked on 35ct 'Beige' from Weeks Dye Works
~ a beautiful, creamy white-ish beige with a touch of greeny-grey.

the threads I chose are soft and spring-hued:
Gentle Art 'Apricot Blush' & 'Cornhusk'
&
Weeks Dye Works 'Verdigris' and 'Grape Vine'

I'm using two strands of floss over two threads of linen,
as I wanted my stitches and motifs to stand out...

Peter gifted me with my favorite color Hyacinth for Easter...
I keep it next to my favorite tattered old wingback chair, which is my very favorite place to stitch.

the scent fills the whole farmhouse!
...and that deep purple color...
be still my heart
❤
this old chair has seen many days...
as threadbare and ratty as it looks,
it is comfy and feels like a hug from an old friend each time I sit down to stitch ~
One day I plan on reupholstering it with old french feedsacks.

✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂✂

Peter prepared our potato patch
{say that fast 3 times!!}
and we should be expecting lots {LOTS} of potatoes this harvest!!
I will gladly share with friends LOL

Hoping the rest of your week is full of creativity and peace!

a token of friendship from me to thee

~ There's no Telling... ~

Good Tuesday Morning to you Friends & Folk ~
another unbearably hot day in store for us here in our part of Virginia...

I've been getting up earlier and earlier these days,
to beat the heat, and just get some quiet time in before farm-wife chores and such ~
...these stolen moments are so good for my soul!

I drink tea every morning.
copious amounts of tea...like 4-5 cups.
sometimes double-bagging!

Honey and tea make me happy,
and I can always get lots accomplished with the buzzzzz of caffeine lol.

Usually green tea is my preferred choice, but occasionally
I will treat myself to some loose tea
made by my sweet Herbologist & Hedgewitch Friend,
Miss Nancy B.

🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄 🥄

When I was younger, ...middle school age perhaps,
I had a girlfriend named Eileen ~
and I would walk to her house each morning to meet her,
so then we could walk to school together...
her sweet little Mom always had a cup of tea waiting for me,
as she knew I loved tea and together we would sit at her dimly lit kitchen table
and sip our beloved drink from her dainty little china teacups
...while she told me about her childhood and growing up in Germany.

This woman would watch me sip my tea to the almost last drop,
then take my teacup away from me and swirl my cup around and around...

she would peer into my almost-empty cup then proceed to tell me my 'fortune' for the day!
...how I would do in math class {always not good! lol}
how I might meet that special boy, and so on...

...between the detailed stories she told me of her past,
and the fun and excitement of hearing her predictions for the day ~
I would usually end up running to Eileens' house every morning!

with each cup of tea I drink, I remember this kind, sweet woman who took the time to
listen to me, and share with me her secrets...
~ I learned that her grandmother and mother also read tea leaves,
and I learned that art is called
"Tasseography"

I have always wanted to find an antique tea-reading cup, or Gypsy fortune cup...
and searched on Amazon and found the one you see pictured here...

... it is a reproduction of one from the 1950's.

 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃 🍃

I don't always use this cup when I take tea ~
nor do I always use loose leaf tea in it.
just occasionally, when I feel the need to connect to kinder, gentler days
that were sweetened with a bit of magic sprinkled in...

kindly forgive the farmwife hands, hangnails and crazy polish or lack there-of lol
