~ Filling my Heart ~ First Class of 2020! ~

 Hello Friends & Folk!

...this New Year brings with it an excitement
for fresh, fun & folky class projects!

I have been revisiting antique and vintage embellished hearts on Pinterest
using their beautiful inspiration to create something 'new' for me to do!

I'm going to make my very own "Folk Heart"!

using my threads, trims, beads, charms, ribbons...
silk & satin ~ wool & velvet
even photos & trinkets of all kinds can be added to a "Folk Heart"
{as I like to call them}

... initials of friends and loved ones,
& dates of significance can be included to personalize a Folk Heart.

... even the more contemporary 'Folk Hearts' made by present-day makers,
tug at my own heartstrings and beg me to create one just for me...

SO ~ with my excitement in beginning this New Year,
I will be holding the first class of 2020
here at the Studio at Notforgotten Farm:

"Folk Heart" Embellishing Class
 Saturday, February 8th 2020
10:00 - 4:00
Class Fee: $28.00 per student

• Students will be supplied with a pre-sewn and stuffed white linen heart approx 10" x  7"
to use as the project base.

• Scraps of assorted fabrics will be offered at time of class
courtesy of NFF for each Student

• Students will need to bring:
their own embellishments for their own personal Folk Heart project, such as but not limited to: threads/trims/beads/charms/photos/ribbon ~ Use your imagination and enjoy the treasure hunt finding your own personal items to add to your project!
~ Students will also need to bring scissors to class.

*Kindly Note*
~  this class is 'unstructured' as far as any set pattern is concerned.
you will simply glean from your imagination and own supplies to create your Folk Heart.
This is NOT a make & take class, it will simply be "finished"
when you choose to finish embellishing it ♥

I will be and am always happy to share embroidery stitches,
project placement suggestions, etc if you need me too!

~ Diversions & Distractions ~

 Hello Friends & Folk!
and greetings on this fine November day to you ~

I pondered over whether to title this post as such:
 'diversions & distractions'
... because really,
the subject matter that is of today's posting is neither a diversion nor a distraction.
it is something that I have been wanting to do/doing in between needlework projects...
yes, I am referring to beading again!

I went hog-wild at our local Joann stores last week ~
not looking for beads, but absolutely falling into a 60%-off sale!
woot-woot & score!

yes I bought beads.
and charms, clasps, toggles and other sundry findings too ~
I also purchased the 2 storage containers you see above and below.
oh, and a book too, on wire-wrapping for jewelry.

I have been slowly incorporating beads into my embroideries
and other needlework projects ~ but I really need to keep focused on the work at hand,
and that is finishing up new goods for our open house on Dec. 6th & 7th ~

You may remember that Peter made Hannah
a bunch of wooden earrings last year for Christmas presents?
well she loved them, and so did I ~ and so did quite a few of our followers!

so Peter & I have decided to make more ~
both for our customers who visit our Shop & Studio here at the farm,
and we will be offering them for sale ON THIS BLOG after our open house!

we're putting together a page here on the blog
that will allow you to shop directly for our
wood/wire/embroidered finished jewelry
and ~ we are excited!!!!

Photos below show a smattering of finished earrings that I made recently
for the open house ~ there will be a variety of styles/shaped/wood/wire/beads
with no two pair ever being exactly the very same ~

hope you love them as much as we do!

 I'll post more info on
how you can go about purchasing some after the open house ~

wishing you all a
peaceful and creative Sunday!

~ Autumn Sunday Musings ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk ~
a wonderfully crisp October Sunday it is here on the farm!

I heard geese flying overhead this morning as I was waking up...
heading south to their winter homes.
but
I like to pretend this is what was making all that racket:

I have been a huge fan of Charles Wysocki since my childhood!

For those who have been following along on the progress of my embroidered Santa brooch,
I finished it yesterday ~ the addition of the beaded edge and berries just makes me smile ~

I just have to sew the pinback on and it will be fully finished off {FFO}
finished size approx. 2-1/2" x 2-1/4"
and yes this will be a pattern with detailed instructions.
I plan on a Youtube video tutorial for this type of embroidery
when I release this and {a few others} in the coming week or so ~

Of course,
I had to begin another brooch ~ so many irons in so many fires but that is me!
so
I drew one up on my osnaburg fabric and have put in a few start-stitches...
these help me with direction and shading as I stitch
~ and will be covered by my tiny little split stitches soon.
** Click on the Santa brooch photos to enlarge them, you'll see those tiny stitches!

It is a sleepy little fox nestled in the holly leaves ~
and I cannot wait to see this one come to life!
and I know my sweet friend Nancy B. will love it too...
🦊
of course I will add some beads to this one,
holly berries of course but perhaps a sprinkling of snow for the background?

Lately I have become a bit obsessed with beads
right along with my Tribe of enablers I mean Girlfriends!
adding beads to my work opens up a whole new way of designing for me ~

and speaking of beads...
I made all of these with the help of my friends
Sharon & Becky
who are fabulous beaders and have the patience of Job with us
while we try to learn new things! I tend to cuss alot {really? shocking!}
while I bead...it helps me concentrate {not}
and I thank my girls for putting up with me being the sailor/trucker in the room hahaha.

On the far left is an eyeglass chain, and the rest are bracelets ~
the one on the far right I just finished yesterday
... and holy cow that thing plucked my last nerve!
but
I muddled through and I love it.
friends Anita & Janice helped me through the last stages of it,
as Janice was just beginning hers
~ and I was finishing mine up.

I may make another like the one on your middle-left, {blue beads & jump rings}
it was the easiest one for me to make and I have the perfect beads
that I think will work nicely for another one.

Well folks ~
I am off to grab my punchneedle, weavers cloth and threads!
a few new Christmas/Yuletide/Winter pattern models need to be worked on today! YAY!
I'll share some peeks of them, {and my progress on little sleepy fox embroidery soon.}
Oh.
I tend to post my progress photos on my Instagram page & FB too...
the links are up there on the right hand side of this blog
if you should care to follow me there.
❤♥❤

have a beautifully creative and peaceful day my sweet friends!!
