~ Poppets & Poppies ~

 Hello Friends & Folk!
Happy May Day! and a Blessed Beltane to us All ~

Yesterday I made a few poppets ~
one I finished completely...her three sisters will be finished off today {fingers crossed}.

our wild poppies are blooming again,
there are many more of them this year than last - it seems.

...someone's hair matched the poppy petals perfectly!

our walking-onions are growing in their beautifully-twisted way:

a quiet spot in the kitchen garden below:
one of my rusty wire chairs gently holds a fox-skull that Roxy found in the woods for me...

wishing you all a day filled with beauty, creativity and peace ~

~ Springtime & Creative Friends ~

 Good Morning Friends & Folk!
and a happy sun-shiney Wednesday to you all ~

It is Greening! it is Springing!
can you hear the birdies singing?
... tiny lambs made out of fluff,
little chicks now strut their stuff ~
robin's eggs and old straw hats...
~ calico kittens and barn cats
herbs and posies, and oh! daffodil!!
... these Spring-time things my heart do fill ♥️
{silly little poem by me!}

I have been a busy little stitcher in my sewing room...
I made all of these yesterday {with the exception of one more sitting hare not in the photo}
aren't they thee sweetest little things?

'pocket' bunny's, 'millie's' lambs and sitting rabbits...
all from patterns by the most wonderful friend ~
Dru Ann from Cinnamon Creek/A Fine Farmhouse!

I always try to have unique things in our farm shop for my customer-friends when they visit...
and thought these fuzzy folk would be a perfect fit for this time of year ~

I loved watching each one come to life through Dru's pattern instructions ~
happy little faces!

they look swell all gathered in my kitchen together!

I still need to add finishing touches on them, the two pocket bunnies need dresses, the lambs & rabbits will wear necklaces of some-sort...

they make me happy...I think I will make some chicks today!

Hoping you all have a wonderful day filled with numerous bits of small joy!

Mantle Redux

Good Wednesday Morning my Friends ~

...another soggy day here at the farm...
yesterday was a mixed bag of hot sun early on, then wonderful thunderstorms in the aft ~

The power went out for a short bit so I decided to change out my Keeping Room's mantle
(again)

remember a couple of posts ago ~ i changed the rugs and mentioned that I needed to 'tone-down' the blue paint on the mantle a bit?

(you can see the brightness of the blue in the photo below)

well I did & here is the result:

Here's what I did:

I took a small bottle of
Folk Art Antiquing Gel Medium (Dark Brown) and a sponge brush ~
watered down the medium just a tad, and then splotched (real professional word, huh?) it on all over the blue paint & wood...

then I took a damp paper towel and smeared the medium around into the nooks and crannies of the wood, architecture of the mantle and especially onto the blue paint...

I let it dry a bit, then took a dry paper towel
 (ok...many dry paper towels)
and wiped away the rest of the medium.

I let that dry for a couple of hours with the floor fan and then I took brown shoepolish and polished the entire thing...let that set up for a bit, then brushed the whole mantle with a shoe brush ~
bringing a mellow glow to the finished work.
(whew!)

Lots of elbow grease, but I love how it looks now ~
let me know what you think about it?

(the two larger black dolls are from The Burlap Owl, the white prairie doll I purchased at Millstone Mercantile...the printed rabbit is from the Fishersville Antiques show ~ and I made the rest)
((the hooked HOME SWEET HOME rug is from Sherry Kristoff))

Many thanks for the encouraging emails about my new fabric design!!!!
