~ Diversions & Distractions ~

 Hello Friends & Folk!
and greetings on this fine November day to you ~

I pondered over whether to title this post as such:
 'diversions & distractions'
... because really,
the subject matter that is of today's posting is neither a diversion nor a distraction.
it is something that I have been wanting to do/doing in between needlework projects...
yes, I am referring to beading again!

I went hog-wild at our local Joann stores last week ~
not looking for beads, but absolutely falling into a 60%-off sale!
woot-woot & score!

yes I bought beads.
and charms, clasps, toggles and other sundry findings too ~
I also purchased the 2 storage containers you see above and below.
oh, and a book too, on wire-wrapping for jewelry.

I have been slowly incorporating beads into my embroideries
and other needlework projects ~ but I really need to keep focused on the work at hand,
and that is finishing up new goods for our open house on Dec. 6th & 7th ~

You may remember that Peter made Hannah
a bunch of wooden earrings last year for Christmas presents?
well she loved them, and so did I ~ and so did quite a few of our followers!

so Peter & I have decided to make more ~
both for our customers who visit our Shop & Studio here at the farm,
and we will be offering them for sale ON THIS BLOG after our open house!

we're putting together a page here on the blog
that will allow you to shop directly for our
wood/wire/embroidered finished jewelry
and ~ we are excited!!!!

Photos below show a smattering of finished earrings that I made recently
for the open house ~ there will be a variety of styles/shaped/wood/wire/beads
with no two pair ever being exactly the very same ~

hope you love them as much as we do!

 I'll post more info on
how you can go about purchasing some after the open house ~

wishing you all a
peaceful and creative Sunday!

~ Short & Sweet {and cold!} ~

♥ Hello Friends & Folk ♥
and a happy bright and COLD December day to you!
the wind is whipping around out there,
making our already cold temps feel so much colder...
but,
I've got my love to keep me warm...

 here is my
"...to this Place" rug all hooked
and bound with wool.

the design itself measures approx 13" x 23"
... and that's before the binding was added ~

neat & tidy
love this finished-look!

here is the back ~
yes, I leave plenty of room between loops and rows...
I hate a lumpy rug :(
{{although I see a few spots where I'll add a few more small worms}}

then stitched on a patch of old ticking to use as a label ~
I use a gold sharpie to write my labels with ~
... the color looks faded & old.

I loved working on this, and will have the mailed paper pattern,
PDF downloadable pattern and pattern on linen available soon for you ~

I'm working on a few more hooked designs,
~ then will list them all in our Etsy shop soon!

I don't offer kits for these,
I just simply use wools from my scrap basket & piles, saved and collected from here & there ~
If I can remember the names of some of them, I'll pass that info along for you :)

Until then, keep warm and keep busy!

Almost Finished ~

Usually when I'm at this stage of a rug ~
between blocking & binding,
I like to just lay it on a chair and look at it for a day ...

Scrap Cat ~ ©Notforgotten Farm
I used so many pieces of scrap wool from other rugs for this little one ~
and I am pleased with my results!
lots of wool in there!

it's size is approx. 11" x 9"...
and it will be turned into a purse as well.
now I just have to figure out what type of purse :)
a handbag with shorter handles?
another long strapped one to wear across your chest? (my personal fav)
or, maybe I'll have to dream a little and come up with something different...we'll see.

time to put on my thinkin' cap :)

I am also happy with this cat's tiny little eyeball    >^..^<
I cut the black and white wool strips super-skinny
and worked them in after hooking the outline of the eye...

sorry about the blur and the cat hair!

in a different light

and under my ott lamp's light ~

...... a better snap of his eye:

what's wrong with my camera today?

So, how many of you hookers out there 'fit in' little details of your rugs like I did for the eye?
did you plan on doing that or was it a 'happy accident' like mine was :)
I will try to replicate this again and hope it works out as good ~

I'm working on another video tutorial too,
this one will be a series of how I start & finish a rug,
...with all of the steps in between.

I gaurantee it will be interesting to say the least!

Have a wonderfully creative wednesday my friends!!

ALMOST done!!!!

I am ALMOST finished with the drawings
for the new 2012 calendar from
(c)Notforgotten Farm...
I posted recently that I thought I would have the calendar finished & (maybe) available this weekend,
BUT...it won't...
BUT it will be available for the New Year ~
SO
I'll do my best...that's all I can do :)

{{this is how I feel sometimes...oh, but ain't I pretty!}}
