~ Stormy Weather ~

~ storms a brewing ~
thunder.  lightning.  rain.

soggy weather and humidity ~ high temps and sticky-ness

our walks are either early morning or early evening
before the rain or after the rain...

August has never been my favorite month ~
but I do enjoy knowing that my beloved Autumn will be here soon enough,
.....as there are SIGNS ~

there is a slight coolness under the hot breezes.
leaves are turning and falling.
skies are becoming paler and the air a bit thinner.
the crickets and cicada are scratching out their late summer songs ~
beautiful music to my ears!

~ It's coming.... ~

 There are hints everywhere...

take a moment to listen to the wind.
it's changing ~
stop and look to the tree-tops.
notice the subtle change in color and texture...

 impatiently waiting for it's arrival
just like every year.
history repeated ~

longing for this;
while suffering through heat & humidity
only makes it sweeter when it arrives.

come on in for a visit today ~
our little Needlework Shop here at the farm will be Open 10 - 4:00

together,
... we can dream about and create our very own Autumn :)

~ Small Stitches ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk ~
and Tuesday it is once again.

... a little cooler this morning,
 so hoping it will begin to stay that way.

I've been stitching on this little owl and moon embroidery
in-between larger projects for upcoming shows and events;

I'm working with Gentle Art Simply Wool threads and love them!

they have just the right amount of coarseness to them {for me}.
not too 'hairy' but you can tell it's wool justthesame.

satin stitches become feathers and leaves,
french knots become tiny berries ~
even smaller cross stitches become a smattering of stars...
straight stitch branches and a chain stitch scroll underneath it all...

{no, you do not see any bullion stitch in there do you}.
'nuff said about them!

can you see the slight blush on Mr. Moon's cheek?
that is from using the variegated wool thread from the Gentle Art...
{I have the color written down in my book, if anyone wants to know exactly what is it}

I'm using a scrap of nubby linen to stitch on,
and my hoop is only 4" in diameter...
so this is a small piece ~ my favorite!

I'm pleased with it,
and I think Miss Roxy approves as well ~

~ Not So Tiny Stitches ~

 Hello!
...and Happy Tuesday to you all!

between the intolerable heat and dry weather,
I am holed-up in my old farmhouse ~ working on Autumnal things
and dreaming of falling leaves, pumpkins and crisp, cool nights...

I am such a needlwork-butterfly ~ flitting from this-to-that!
so today I am working on another new cross stitch design
that will include this house
~ stitched in shades of pumpkin!
{ok, DMC 782}

but instead of stitching on smaller count linen,
I am LOVING this larger count linen that I picked up at a quaint little stitching shop called:
HodgePodge
 located in Strasburg, PA on our travels last week.
here is the link to their FB page ~ click HERE

the package that this came in says 18ct Aida ~ Lambswool.
but we all know it is linen ;)

 and I am stitching on it using 3 strands of floss over two threads of linen...
it is working out to be more like a 20ct though,...{over 2 threads would be a 10ct}
easy to see, big and super-fast!

don't mind my penciled-on ruler,
those lines are meant for other projects ~ not this one.

the hoop I'm using is one my sweet Mom gave me while in CT ~
it is a "Queen" hoop with coin-screw closure.

a perfect size for the project I'm working on!
 ~ thanks Mom!!!

Hoping you all are staying comfy and safe in this horrible heat.
please remember to provide water to your outdoor friends

~ Switching Gears ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk ~
and happy sunny hot & humid Wednesday to you all!

After being in New England this past weekend,
my melancholy heart is longing for my roots…
~ the sights & colors of old Connecticut & Massachusetts
have my imagination going in a direction towards Autumn once again ~
and that is fine with me.

While in Sturbridge, we visited a little shop called
Quilt & Cabbage
where I found the most beautiful homespuns in my favorite shades;
blacks, greys, blues, cheddars ~ ticking & checks and plaids…
oh my!

I will incorporate these into my needlework as backings and such.
{actually I never have a plan in mind when fabrics find me ~ I just take them on home along with me}

see the little punched squirrel?
he will become a pattern for my Autumn/Harvest/Hallowe'en release
coming in July….

of course, being a shop owns myself, and one that carries lots of wools…
I HAD to purchase these from Doreen at Ye Country Mercantile in Sturbridge, MA
{what's wrong with me?}

they just jumped into my arms
~ like we were long-lost friends ~

you can see the beginnings of another pattern model below,
this one is wool appliqué of course…

I love the tags on this wool
"Wool Hooker"

If I get any down-time this evening,
I will drool over  peruse this new book that I purchased up north…

it was the cover that made me buy it….
{ya think?}

Printing
Packaging
Shipping
Banking
that's what's on my agenda for today ~
… before I get to punch any loops or pull any thread.

Have a beautiful mid-week-day my friends!
