~ Thread Tales ~

 Good Morning
~  Friends & Folk ~

and happy dreary Monday to you all!
dreary days mean great stitching days here in these parts ;)
{any day really, but I love the coziness of the farmhouse on rainy days}

Do any of you do this:

do you save your minuscule snips of thread in pretty glass jars like I do?
{oh, you're not as crazy am I are you?}

I save them for the birds ~
how I love to see fallen or abandoned nests that have my threads
& wool snippets woven intricately through them.

my sampler in progress is officially named:
"Possessed by the Needle"
and those words were shared with me by Miss Joan ~
we agreed they would make for a great sampler...

I have just one more motif to go,
then will begin working on the border.

"Possessed by the Needle,
Enchanted by the Thread,"
Her Work 1792
Elezabeth Curtiss
Stratford, Conn. {CT}
{town/state name to be added too, I forgot!}

Hoping your day is a lovely one, enjoy the sun or the rain!

~ Feeling Blue ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk!
~ happy Wednesday to you all ~

the title to my post is misleading...
I'm not personally 'feeling' blue ~
I am just adoring the blue samplers that I've been seeing pop up on Pinterest lately!

look at these beauties:
this one is a naive and simple Alphabet band sampler:
"Behold the Daughter of Innocence how beautiful is the mildness of her Countenence"

Indigo dyed threads of cotton & silk
make me swoon...
such a difference in execution from the previous sampler above,
but nonetheless just as beautiful ~

and look at this big girl below!
just how many motifs can you have in a sampler at one time?
ALL of them I guess!
{{love the weird looking mermaid/fish-woman middle-left and long-necked woman upper left!}}
I believe this one is Belgian, dated 1830 ~
 if I am wrong on the provenance, please forgive but WOW!!
a stunner and how many hours went in to this??

soft sweet blues, pale and pretty...
this sampler stitched by Eliza Cookson (below)
 is just plain sweet and shows the prowess of a well-schooled 13 year old girl in 1824:

the lettering on this one below is perfect in my eye & heart ~
oh I just love them all!

Hoping your day is filled with many small things that bring you great joy!!

our daughter.

~ Friday Thoughts ~

Happy Friday
~ Friends & Folk ~

we have a cool dry respite today,
before the heatwave & humidity comes next week.
that means yard work this afternoon ~
which includes tending the gardens...

don't you love how alien the scarlet bee balm looks?

always happy,
you know these are my favorites:

little flutterby
on a pincushion flower ~

more happiness!

our humble patio
where we enjoy eating, chatting
and of course it's my fav stitching spot
in the Summer months ~

progress is being made on the un-named sampler...
I really am trying to make it look very old, yet whimsical ~
but I ran out of room for the last letter in this word
so I did what our stitching-sisters of the past did:
I raised it up a bit higher and stitched it over one.
{this is still 2 strands on 32ct linen}

there. all better now.
and I love it ~

I have an idea in mind for the finish ~
but not entirely sure if I will use it
... or do something a bit different

I seem to always be changing my mind as I stitch.

Hannah will be visiting us this evening,
coming home for a bit to celebrate Father's Day with us ~
always a happy time when our one and only comes home!

~ Midweek Musings ~

Hello Friends & Folk ~
Happy Wednesday to you all!

did any of you get a small glimpse of sunshine today?
{at least that's what I think it is, a big ball of light in the sky?}
yep, actual sunshine right now. as I type.
*aaaahhhh*
 oh wait...yep, it's gone again.

How do you like my 'welcome' flag?
{hahaha}

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
here is progress on a new design I'm stitching...
I have named it, ~ but I won't tell you what it is until I'm finished ~
don't you love the thread colors?
they are all Weeks Dye Works threads, as well the linen.
linen is 32ct Tin Roof ~
threads used thusfar are Kohl, Bullfrog, Havana &  Pelican Gray.
(2 strands of floss over 2 threads of linen}
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OH! see the look on Pepper's face?
she has been naughty, but she learned a valuable lesson
...chasing a mother deer will get your furry-butt in a heap of trouble!
Peter watched as Pepper ran up the driveway after a doe,
which then spun around on her sharp hooves and went after Pepper!!!
yeah. never underestimate a mother protecting her child.
duh.

'I wuz skeered mom...she almost got my hiney'.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
the gardens are lush, due to the rains,
but also everything is rotted after blooming.
that is so sad.
Well enjoy your day,
whatever your weather!
make your own sunshine...then share it with others.
~ Sitting & Stitching a Spell ~
~ Hello Friends & Folk ~
 it is hotter than the hinges of Hell here today!
... our chickens are panting and the dogs
well, they are trying to find the zippers to their fur-suits to take them off!
thankfully,
the air conditioning has been a relief indoors ~
and so I've been working on this little stitch
wanting to make a companion piece to my little
 Rest Thy Scissors pattern & box;
I wanted to use some of my own fabric that I designed, 'candle light walk'
{available HERE}
love it!!
stuffed it with some of Peter's organic sawdust,
and added Dames of the Needle's fabulous mini pom-pom trim in 'Colonial Tea'
here is the finished back,
with fussy-cut fabric to showcase my candle light witch, and the trim all stitched on;
and here is what Peter made for it ~
thee sweetest little spooky pincushion chair
to match my Rest Thy Scissors box!
teensy-tiny little spool feet!
I am working on more seasonal designs for this little chair, so it can stay out and be YOUR companion all the year through ~
the linen I used is 32ct Weekd Dye Works "Tin Roof"
threads used:
Weeks Dye Works: Pamlico, Kohl & Tin Roof
Gentle Art Threads: Sarsaparilla
2 threads over 2 strands of linen
stitch count: 42w x 37h
PDF / paper pattern & finished pincushion chair
will be available soon ;)
