Soooo...
I frogged out all of those leaves on the 'tree' and started hooking daisies instead,
(thanks to all of you who agreed that would be a good idea since her name is Daisy!)
but I didn;t want to use wool for the flower centers, so I chose these instead:
...nice, fat hand-cut strips of CW repro's ~
(please don;t mind the cat hair, is adds more dimension to my work ~ ha!)
(please don;t mind the cat hair, is adds more dimension to my work ~ ha!)
not really, but the fabric surely does :)
see my old hook? it looks rusty, but it isn't...it is pitted & worn ~ the handle is smooth as satin
from years of work...by me, and by the woman who created her rugs before me....
I like to dream about her while I hook.
did she create rugs with wool & fabric too? did she use spent clothing from family & friends to make her rugs? and did she make her rugs for fun or for the purpose of warming her cold farmhouse floors?....oh the stories this old hook could tell~
here are some of the flowers ~
i used the same white, as-is wool for the petals as i did for miss Daisy's velvet-muzzle....
I hooked them just a little bit higher than the center fabric,
so the petals would stand out even more...
of course, they don't look like much now, but as soon as I hook that first row around them,
they will look better....I'm having so much fun hooking this rug!!!
they will look better....I'm having so much fun hooking this rug!!!

Such happy looking daisies! Your Daisy rug is looking great. Can't wait to read Daisy's story. I am itching to get my next rug hooking project. Your bee inspired me to pull out my beginner project, which I finished yesterday. Humble beginnings, but ready to sink my teeth into a new project and creating some of my own designs. Thank you!!
It looks great! Cant wait to see it finished:)

oh yes, loving the rug, but I knew I would !! also, sometimes when I want to leave a comment, blogger won't let me, but hope it will today, love visiting your blog.
IT WORKED !!!!
Hi, I was wondering; I have never rug hooked, and would like to learn. I have been watching youtube videos, and have learned a lot, but can I ask, (since no one mentions it on the instructional videos) how to you fill up the holes? I mean, do you hook every hole, or count(like cross stitch?) or do you just try to "wing it" and hook as close as possible to the last one? No one ever mentions this.
(You may email me at pameladervarits@yahoo.com) Thanks!
I need to do some reading...because I have not idea what this rug hooking is, or how it's done, but I am really loving all these little mats and rugs I've been seeing! =)
This one is so sweet! =) Can't wait to see the end result!
I am loving this rug! Hugs,Jen

Those daisies are glorious, Lori!! What a genius idea to use fabric! Can't wait to see this one completed....I think Daisy would approve, no?? Beautiful hook you have too....I struggle to find one that pleases me for long. Perhaps I need to look elsewhere... Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Hi Lori,
Goodness your talent i awesome....I would never think to use 'fabric' as one of the design elements in a hooked rug. Very lovely.
