~ A Snippet of a Different Kind ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk!
and a happy hot September 4th to you all ~

as I have posted on IG & FB...
I am getting back into my Scherenschnitte or papercuttings.

I made and sold many and am humbled
~ that they now reside in private collections throughout the world.

my favorite subject is of course Autumn, Witches & Christmas,
but I have been known to snip a few rabbit folk as well for Easter!

Primarily I use these large Chinese scissors to work,
but for small detail I use a very sharp, antique pen knife and Xacto knife as well...

most of my works are freehand, but I do also pencil in lines to follow before I cut away...

I never know how it will look
until the finish and I hold it up to the light!

I use 67lb black cardstock
and my own hand-parched, stained and scorched papers...
a technique that my dear aunts taught me when I was younger ~

this sweet little sweeping witch was cut from my own paper
and is mounted on the black cardstock ~ just the opposite of the one shown above:

I'll be offering a few finished & framed cuttings at our
Gathering of Primitive Friends Show
here at the Farm on Saturday September 21st

I also would like to offer some templates for those who might want to try it themselves,
and perhaps some notecards or prints of my originals ~

Blessings from the Farm
 ~ Lori

Lori, I have to say, your talent and creativity doesn't end. These are AMAZING. I would love to purchase.....I would frame the witch and enjoy during the Holiday season. I wish I lived closer (in Dayton) so I could visit and join you to stitch.

I love Scherenschnitte so much, my mom is from the Black Forest and always created and taught me the crafts of her heritage. I found a really neat tool at Michaels...it's a tiny blade attached to a round ring like holder. Sometimes updated tool are easier on the hands as we get older.

Many blessings, fall has landed in my neck of the woods and I am starting to see the birds and squirrels getting ready, the leaves are tipped in gold and red and thoughts of hooking wooly mats are entering my dreams again.

Lori, I love doing paper cutting and have done many but they are not my style so I have not done it for some time now.I have not one displayed in my house and always have given them away. I would really like some included in my decorating. I LOVE your style and if you offer patterns I will by them for sure. I have loved your pieces for years. Please consider creating patterns to sell. I'm sure there are many of us who would be thrilled. Good luck his weekend. I envy those who will be there.
