~ April Showers...and Fish? ~

Happy April!
welcome to that indecisive month of sun & rain ~
hoping for more sun, of course ~

April Showers Bring May Flowers
they say...

But did you know that April 1st, 'April Fool's Day'
also brings FISH????

April fish

In Italy, France, Belgium and French-speaking areas of Switzerland and Canada, April 1 tradition is often known as "April fish" (poissons d'avril in French, april vis in Dutch or pesce d'aprile in Italian). This includes attempting to attach a paper fish to the victim's back without being noticed. Such fish feature is prominently present on many late 19th- to early 20th-century French April Fools' Day postcards. Many newspapers also spread a false story on April Fish Day, and a subtle reference to a fish is sometimes given as a clue to the fact that it is an April fool's joke....

 Well, now you do!
you're welcome

Blessings from the Farm

Annie would love celebrating April Fish! She would not hesitate to stick a paper fish on anyone's back...a real fish would be more in line with her idea of fun! Thought of you as we drove through your neck of the woods on our trip to D.C. One of these days I hope to have the time in our schedule to stop!!! Maybe next year when we head to Williamsburg in the spring! Happy April!

Well, what’d’ya know??? I never knew this. Thanks for the fun little history lesson....and I love the old postcards! I’d rather have a fish on my back than the white stuff coming from the sky though. Happy April Lori!

That's cool, never heard of this before. Now when I see postcards like these, I will understand and I will always remember this on April Fools Day!..
