…ok, I haven't been framed…
but
my paper cuttings
or scherenschnitte have!!!
{{Wikipedia:}}
"scherenschnitte" : which means 'scissors cuts' in German.
This art tradition was founded in Germany in the 16th century and brought to Colonial America by immigrants in the 18th century who settled primarily in Pennsylvania.
here they are all framed up in our frames….
Peter makes the frames from our own milled Poplar trees
here on our farm, then I paint them.
the wavy glass that is included is
windowpane OLD glass from our old farmhouse windows!
(recycle!!)
clockwise, starting at top: Snowman feeding birds, Woodsman Santa, Xmas tree Angel and Nantucket Santa on Whale |
~ and ~
Folk Angel, Comfort Holly Compote, Home Feather Tree & Christmas Eve |
and whilst I had the paints out,
I did this ~
"Santa's Coffer"
one of Peter's wooden coffers ~ painted in a new technique! looks SO OLD!!! |
I have been experimenting with different aging techniques
...and finishes
and I think I found the one I love best :)
what do you think?
initials "S.C." on the lid ~ date "1863" on the front |
I used 14K gold paint to detail the lettering and numbers ~
adds just the perfect early touch…
wonder what "S.C." keeps in this box? pipe tobacco? stardust?? ...lists of naughty children??? |
I have a few more of these boxes to finish before heading out to Ohio tomorrow ~
all of these will be available at the
From Our Hands Show ~
….plus a few more finished goods for you, too :)
Have a most wonderful day Friends & Folk ~
* Blessed be *
