two baskets:
I have a bunch of these, as I collect them...
does anyone know what they're called?
they are kind of 'floppy'...
(the black & white checkered one
on the bottom was a GW find for only .50)

Hi Lori, nice haul you have there! I've heard the baskets of this sort referred to as *seagrass baskets* although not sure how accurate that is. I also collect them as they make wonderful storage for pins and sewing notions. To find them with the top strap unbroken is a bonus! Have a great day:)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your new butter churn!!! Nice find...I'm hoping today is as good as yesterday, Nancy
ReplyDeleteI love all of your finds!! I have been wanting some beeskeps of my own!

Merrie, might know the official name for them, as she weaves baskets or at least did...
ReplyDeleteGreat finds!
Sweetgrass baskets...sweetgrass basketmaking was brought to South Carolina by slaves who came from West Africa. The functional baskets were used on the plantations and sold for extra income for the slave owners. Today the West African descendents keep the basketmaking tradition alive in Charleston.
