I've been stitching forever, it seems,
and it seems that I always overdye my finished work...
well for once I've decided to dye my linen before I stitch on it!
So
out came my dye pot, spoons, gloves & dye packets...

in goes the water, dye and linen~
out comes this
beeeeautiful linen
that I can hardly wait to start stitching on!

You can see in the picture above,
the 'before' on your left and the 'after' on the right...
I used Cushing's Acid Dyes,
and sort of mixed some colors together
to get what I'm calling
"Olde Flax"

a beautiful, mottled color~
the linen is 28ct and I am so excited to stitch a sampler on this,
that I will be designing one especially for this linen!! LOL!

I might even dye up some more and offer it on etsy if there's any interest...

ReplyDeleteIt really came out beautifully, love the aged look. Did you use the wool dyes? I guess if it is natural linen, it would take. I tend to like using white, I can see the holes better. Then I antique it.

ReplyDeleteyes, I did use the Cushing's Dyes that I use to dye my wools...it takes to the Linen perfectly! and, I've always overdyed my finished work too, as I said in the post, but i don't want to overdye the threads that I'm using for this sampler, they are from Gentle Arts/Sampler Threads and are too pretty to overdye!!

Lori, I think this linen will be wonderful with whatever you are designing. You have a great color "eye." Can't wait to buy some if you offer it on etsy. And that sampler will probably be a must have.
