{ getting to the point...}

When Obsession Strikes:

ok...my name is Lori & I am a Fiber Addict.
(feeling better now)

Since my last post,
I decided that I must would actually do a little needlepoint.
You see, I get these ideas in my head and they never leave.
(well, unless I release them in some form or fashion...)

so I started on this new design...
it is called
"Reverend Gourdon Squashbottom"
(Miss Felicia aka Flea) is stitching the cross stitch model presently)
I decided to start it in needlepoint....

since I already had the design charted through my software program,
I simply converted the charting from symbols to color blocks...
GENIUS!
(I love a good brain fart...sorry to offend)
but what I did NEXT made me squeal and do a happy dance!
I placed the printed color chart down on my lightbox, then I placed my 18 gauge canvas down on top of that, making sure the lines were straight on the grain, and then I
TRACED the outline of the whold design onto the canvas!
WHHhaaaaatttt????
yup.

I really had no clue as to how this would work out, but I am happy to report that it is working
TOTALLY AWESOME!

I am still counting the color blocks, but having the outline there is SO much easier...
in fact, I was stitching along, grinning a Kool-Aid grin when I noticed something:
I completely stitched in his mouth!!!!
oh well, I'll go back & fill it in with french knots...yeah...that's what I'll do!

the #3 perle cottons are so nice to use with this 18count canvas...
really fills up quickly, and they have a soft, mellow sheen to them
...which I think lends a nice glow to my work.

of course, I may overstain the entire piece when I'm finished,
but we'll cross that bridge.....

SSSooooo....
what do you think about the paper charting?
it's big, easy to see & (I think) easy on the eyes.
of course, the BACKGROUND of this design will be completely filled in,
unlike a regular cross stitch design...
...but I'm looking forward to the finish to actually see the design completely filled in.
I'm thinking of filling it in with ECRU floss and then staining it.

There you have it.
my new obsession.
I'll share more progress pics soon,
...and pics of the shop too!

{ Crossing Over }

I have exciting news to share with everyone who loves needlework!
as most of you know, I love anything having to do with needle and thread,
wool,
stitching,
and working with my hands...

"The Giving Sisters" (C)Notforgotten Farm

I had recently asked the members of my stitching forum,
if anyone there did needlepoint ~ and they did!

I haven't picked up a needlepoint canvas in over 30 years...but
I can't seem to get it out of my mind lately.
so as I was dreaming about it, I came to this conclusion:
why not offer my cross stitch designs & punch needle designs
...to those that love to needlepoint??
I think my folky, primsical designs would translate well, don't you?
well....

I am happy to announce ~
that very soon you will be able to do just that...
imagine stitching my
Eke & Zeke below in wool threads...
or the Giving Sisters, design shown above - done in petit point??
oh my.

AND
since I will be 'crossing over' so-to-speak,
I am now carrying ALL COLORS of DMC Perle Cotton #3 and
ALL COLORS of Waverly Needlepoint Wool Yarn in the shop here at the farm!
....that's right!
Peter is rearranging the shop as we speak to accomodate the racks and racks
(and racks!)
of fibers for needlepoint ~

I have some blank canvases for those that like to work your needlepoint from charts
(which my designs will be available for)
but will be bringing more into the shop ~
along with handpainted canvases as well...
and
SPEAKING of hand painted canvases,
It is 'in the works' for my folk art and needlework designs to be adapted onto canvas ~
soon to be available from a wonderful company that specializes in painting needlepoint canvases.

oh I'm just so excited!
Please let me know your thoughts and comments about this...
and I'll take pictures of the shop as soon as it gets back to 'normal' :)))

{ Lavender Days }

we finally had some rain ~
the gardens were in need of a nice, cool drink.

our Lavender is huge this year, due to the hot, dry weather we've been having as of late...

it is just beginning to bloom ~
the very tips of the buds are opening today.
the entire garden smells like heaven!

my dear Friend, Nancy
will be coming here on Saturday, June 22nd
to teach a class on how to make
Lavender Wands,
as seen below ~

if you'd like to come out for the class, email me at not4got@aol.com & I'll sign you up ~
~ the cost of the class is only $10.00

Nancy will be bringing along her delectable
lavender pound cake with lemon herb butter
lemonade with hibiscus/lavender syrup
and other herb-infused treats as well ~

I'll make sweet tea with lavender sugar,
and lavender/blueberry muffins...

Minew approves of the class and can't wait to greet you inside the Garden Gate...

...she loves her belly tickled
and will play hide-and-seek in the strawberry patch with you!

just outside the gate, in the wild grapevine ~
a mother Mockingbird has built her nest and her hatchlings have arrived ...

here are two with one yet to pop out:

and here is Mother Mockingbird ~
keeping a close eye on our little Minew below ...

I do hope you'll come learn how to make the Lavender Wands ~
the shop will surely smell wonderful from scent of the lavender...
~ come be inspired!!

{ Summerfield and Sawdust }

As promised, but maybe a little late ~
Here is my new
"SUMMERFIELD"
cross stitch design ~
( I personally love this one.)

Summerfield by Notforgotten Farm©

top-hatted Ladye, sweet sheep, beeskep & bees...lots of sunflowers too ~

I decided to finish this into a larger sawdust-stuffed pillow and backed it with a mix of 4 coordinating repro civil war era fabrics in shades of orange/mustard/yellow ochre ~

model was stitched by Felicia Martin onto my 30ct. Old Farmhouse Linen©
with DMC threads, one strand over two threads.

stitch count is 142w x 115h

the finished pillow is approx. 7 1/2" x 10"

~ simple patched backing with hand stitching ~
 of course,
you could finish this however you prefer ~

...and we are selling our home-milled sawdust too!
a by-product of our OLD as Dirt Primitives line of wooden ware for the needleworker ~

I use this as filling for all of my pillows and pinkeeps...
i love the dense-ness of this sawdust ~
which is less 'dust' and more like small wood shavings...

Sawdust from Notforgotten Farm

4 cups-full in a brown paper bag for $5.00
(the pillow above has approx 8 cups in it but how dense yours will be depends entirely on you)

brown paper packages,......old time goodness.

the SUMMERFIELD pattern is available in our ETSY shop,
along with our own organic,
non-treated sawdust ~

let me know what you think my Friends ~
~ Have a wonderful peaceful Sunday!
