~ A Giveaway ~

Hello Friends And Folk!
And a very happy Wednesday evening to you all ~

In celebration of my recent successful eye surgery,
{{ because I can now enjoy rug hooking again without the wool dust bothering my eyes  }}
AND
because today is #givingtuesday...

I am giving away this sweet little {well, not so little - 6" x 6" } hooked ornament that I made...

~ I’m calling it the Little Blue Farmhouse ~

Hooked with scraps of blue wools, brown wool, cream, gold and dirty moss and mustard wools
using 1/4” wide wool strips {otherwise known as a #8 cut} and hooked through silky natural linen.

I hooked it in my usual wonky-way...high and low loops, crooked lines and different directions
~  it looks like it was an old portion of a hooked rug that someone may have tried to save...
I added a charcoal and soot checkered wool to cover the back, and then added a hand-twisted rusty wire hanger for you to place on your tree, peg rack or cupboard doorknob...

here it is with just the tree lights on:

SO ~
to be able to enter your chance to win my little blue farmhouse hooked wool ornie ~
... kindly leave a message here on this blog post only...
and tell me all about your favorite Christmas memory!
~ if you'd like to you can share this post with your friends too :)

on Monday December 3rd at around 6:00 p.m. I will use Random.com
to pick a corresponding number-to-name from the comments left...
*****please include your name too so I can contact you!

Best of luck to you all, and I hope you enjoy my giveaway!

Blessings from the Farm

OMG, would be humbled to be the winner of the Blue Farmhouse.

Okay, I actually have two... I have a 'most favorite' when I was a teen and was able to save up enough money to buy my mother a pinky ring from a "real" jewelry store.

The most memorable was when younger than that above and went in search of my Christmas gifts. I found them, they were wrapped and very carefully opened them to see what was there. Then on Christmas day I had to pretend to be surprised. Never again did I ever do that nor over shake a package. I'd much rather be surprised.

Glad your eye surgeries are over and they were successful.

How sweet is that house! I love it. My favorite memory is when my doubting nephew from the deep south came to the woods of NH and we truly convinced him that there really was a Santa in so many fun ways. He is now 22 and still talks about it!

Hi Lori. What a sweet house! Thank you for offering this. My sweet memory is my parents and us kids going to the tree farm to pick out our tree. Then coming home to decorate it. My mom would put all of the breakable ornaments and lights on the tree, while me and my siblings would hang the unbreakable ones. My dad was always in charge of the Christmas music on the hi-fi (stereo) when we were decorating. It was a nice tradition our family had. Janice

My most memorable Christmas memory doesnt involve gifts and such, at least not the kind of gift anyone wants! I was young, 16 years old, and married for 20 days. I was cooking my first Turkey and my father was coming over to have Christmas dinner with my new husband and me. The table was set, beautifully I must say, and we sat down to eat. I asked my father to cut the Turkey for us. I can still add him carving away and he stops and stares at the Turkey. What's this he asks as he pulls the bag of giblets out of the body cavity. I was horrified. I didnt even know that was in there! Oh the laughs we had on that Christmas and many years after that. Although my father passed in 1995, I think about that dinner every year and I can still hear him laughing. Sadly, I still cant cook worth a hoot!

My favorite memory was on Christmas Eve, my older sister let me sleep in her bed with her. While trying to fall asleep we heard Santa's sleigh bells ringing.

My favorite Christmas memory was building a giant gingerbread house with a girlfriend of mine in Germany. It was the Christmas of 1990, during Desert Shield, and the military was limiting shipments to the commissaries to essential needs only. So there was no molasses, which is a required ingredient as we found out. German stores don't carry it, as it's a mostly American thing, so we tried to make our own using corn syrup and brown sugar. We got the right consistency, and went on to bake. The houses looked great when they were done! We used melted candies for stained glass windows, all kinds of decorations from gummy bears to pretzels -- but on the third day, they started collapsing! It turns out that the molasses provides the stiffness needed to keep our huge gingerbread pieces from slowly imploding. My two daughters loved it, and so did the German kids living next door! (At least Lori's little blue farmhouse won't fall in on itself!)

How very nice of you of you to do this. You ask us to comment about a special Christmas memory, I don't really have any as a child, all I can say is it was the one day we didn't get hit. But, now that I run the show, we have a blast. Everyone comes for Christmas dinner, after we open presents we play games and for some awesome prizes anything from a potholder to a 50.00 gift card. So much fun. Almost forgot, we do poppers and wear the paper crowns throughout the festivities. Love it.

So happy that your surgery was successful. It was so nice to meet you and talk with you at the Witches Hook In in Hudson NY. My favorite Christmas memories are times spent with family, eating good food and lots of laughter. I would proudly hang that little blue house on my tree if I am the lucky number chosen.

I would love to win this ornament! Thanks for the opportunity! Glad your surgery went well :)

My favorite childhood memory....I desperately wanted a desk. Santa did not leave one by the tree but my dad asked me to go to the garage and get a garbage bag. Right there in the garage was my desk! It was unfinished wood and my mom lovingly finished it. It’s over 40 years later and I still have that desk!

Thank you for this opportunity to possibly win the “little blue house” ornament.
When I was around 7 years old, I remember we were snowed in on Christmas Eve and my parents couldn’t get out to buy special food for Christmas Eve. We were poor ( of course, I didn’t know that) so there wasn’t a lot of food to pull from so we had a Chef boy ar dee pizza from a box and some spaghetti and sauce. That became our Christmas Eve traditional meal from there on out.

Hello Lori. Many thanks for the opportunity to enter your generous & gorgeous giveaway draw. Thanks so much.
My favourite Christmas memory would be when I was about 10 years old I guess .... we had very little money but my Mum had made me a whole shoebox full of dolls clothes ... while I was at school she would secretly sew these tiny creations & one dress was embellished with an old butterfly broach of Mums that had broken. I am 58 years old now but I remember that Christmas as if it was yesterday & all those clothes wrapped in tissue. Simple times. Xxx

You always hook such sweet things....LOVE the little blue house!

My mom was my earliest and most ardent supporter of my need to create things with my hands. Every Christmas she let me "illustrate" Santa and his sleigh of reindeer as a painting and display it in a window right by the front porch door. I am sure it looked awful but she always told me how much she loved seeing my artwork.....I will always be indebted and so very grateful to her for that love and support!

I remember one Christmas when we were at my grandmother's house. After the festivities and feast, I remember being sleepy - I was still just a little girl - and my mom took me upstairs and we took a little nap. All the Christmas lights were visible from the window and I drifted off to sleep next to my mother feeling so safe and contented.

I was about 7 and after lunch my Mom asked how my Christmas gifts were. I replied that I loved everything but I had hoped for a doll carriage. Mom turned slightly red and down the hall she went to the hall pantry. After groaning and pushing, out came a box containing my doll carriage!!! She never hid any gifts in that closet again. I know because I looked!!! The look on her face was priceless!

My mother loved the aluminum Christmas trees. I brought my boyfriend home to meet her. I convinced her that we should have a real tree. My boyfriend and I went out to the country to get one. He drove a VW beetle and the tree hung over the front and back. He could barely drive. Snow blowing drifts on the road, but it was the best Christmas tree ever! Stitches crossed that you have a wonderful holiday season Lori! The ornament reminds me of our house now. A cozy cottage!

Congratulations on a successful eye surgery. I adore the blue faremhouse ornament. I'm having a bit of a time decrating the tree this year. I'm 58 and this is the 2nd time in my life that Christmas will not be celebrated with a real tree. I was 16 the first time and we were leaving the country to visit family in Phila Pa for Christmas. I was heart broken. This year because of hubby's health he insisted on an artificial. Oh maybe a fancy ornament will help

Oh Lori! What a beautiful ornament! And what a generous giveaway. Thank you so much! My favorite Christmas memory would have to be going to see Mrs Burns Christmas light display at her home. I grew up on a little farm in southern Oklahoma and we would drive to Wichita Falls Texas about 20 miles away to see this home with her lights. Hundreds and hundreds of people would come every night to see these lights. The cars would Drive slowly around the block all in a long line. One of my grandparents would keep driving the car while the other would get out with us and we would walk around up and down the sidewalks looking at all the displays of Ferris wheels and clowns and Santa Clauses and horses and wagons and all kinds of stuff. When she passed away she left all of that to Midwestern State University. My aunt was the dean of students there. So when I was a teenager and in college and married we would come back and go with Aunt Vi to walk around the lights again. Precious Memories. I'd love to take my grandkids there someday.

I love your little house. My favorite memory is from a Christmas long ago when I was about 7 years old. I want a stuffed toy, Nellie Bell. What made it even better, the following year, my brother gave me Nellie Bell Junior!

Hi Lori! How very kind of you to offer such a chance for a treasure made by your own hands! My favorite Christmas memory revolves around the tree. I would lie on my back under the tree, and be mesmerized by the shiny ornaments and lights. It was quite enchanting. The other involving a tree, was my my father hand I had to walk a long way to find a free tree one year in the city. My father had difficulty walking due to several strokes but this did not stop him. We found one quite a distance from our home, and my father struggled with the weight of the tree. We waited at the bus stop and several buses stopped but did not us on, except for the last one, as he took pity on our plight..... I recall how the branches slid past the metal poles, snug as it was, they released some needles, and the entire ride was heavenly scented. Thankyou for this question, I need to make sure to tell this to my daughters and share the memories.

I am Merry Mary 1800s on instagram

Congratulations on the eye surgery that allows you to hook again. That's wonderful!
I adore your little blue farmhouse. I wish I could live in it!
When my daughters were young we often chose a family in our church congregation who was struggling financially. We collected toys and books for the children, bought clothing and food for Christmas dinner. We tried to deliver the box anonymously so the family wouldn't know who it came from. If we could get away without them knowing, we would go home and call to tell them there was a package on the porch. (Of course, this was before caller ID.) It's a fun memory.
Thank you for offering the farmhouse. Merry Christmas season to you.

So kind to offer a special gift. One of our best Christmas times was to visit my grandfather when he was in a nursing home with our 2 young children. It's always hard to be away from your home and the warmth that the holidays bring but it was more important that my grandfather knew how much he was loved. We traveled from Indianapolis to upstate NY and stayed in a hotel. On Christmas day when we went to see Grandpa, two of the staff had set up a small private room and stayed after their work time to bring us a Christmas dinner to eat with my grandfather. He knew how important he was to us and our children have a special memory.

Lori this little house is Adorable !!!! I would Love to win this pretty treasure of yours !!!
When I was about 8 years old , there was a baby doll I saw in a store , she was way up high on a shelf & I fell in love with her . My Mother & Grandmother loved nice baby dolls and I was lucky to get a special doll for Cmas. This year I knew my Mother had bought her & had it sent to our house. My best friend was over when my Mom was out for a few hours when this big box was delivered to my house. I knew it was The Baby Doll. I couldn't wait & had to show her to my friend ! We opened her up ,ran to my bedroom & played all day with her . My Mother didn't know , until my friend went home . My Mom & Dad were so upset with me & said I would never see that doll again . My mother took me to that store , seemed like every day & I saw that baby doll on the shelf & would cry each time . Cmas morning, there was no baby doll under the tree. I ran to my room & cried. My Dad called me downstairs to help make breakfast & there was the Baby Doll in the kitchen sitting in my chair !!! I still have my Baby Doll and love her just as much today . I never ever opened another gift !!!

We always went on the 22nd or 23rd & went downtown. Downtown Kansas City, MO was a magical place to a little girl in the 1950s. After we finished shopping, Daddy would take us to Kresge's for hamburgers & chocolate milk shakes then walking around the downtown. There was always a stop @ the Jones Store to see the one & only Santa, then, w/my sister on his shoulders & my hand in his, we'd look @ all the wonderful window displays & lights. It was the best time ever! My daddy has been gone for 40 yrs now, but there isn't a Christmas that goes by that I don't remember that tall, skinny man making wonderful Christmas memories for his 2 girls.

Hi Lori,
Such a darling ornament and would love to give it a good home!!
One favorite memory is our very first Christmas as a newly married couple!
We had no tree or ornaments and very little money, but decided to just go look on Christmas Eve! Most stores were already closed but Kmart still happened to be open so we went in!! Back in the Christmas area everything was pretty well picked over but there was still one complete display with a tree, lights, ornaments and greenery! As we stood admiring it, the store manager walked by and asked if we needed help!! We told him we were just looking, but somehow our longing must have communicated to him because he told us that if we wanted the display, he would be happy to get it down for us and that the store would be closing very shortly!! When Jeff asked him how much it would cost and when the manager told him we could have it ALL for $10.00, we literally were speechless!!! We paid for it and happily took it home to set up our very first Christmas!! Such a special memory!!!
Thank you for your sweet Giveaway, Lori, and may you and yours have a Most Blessed Christmas!!!
Heart Hugs~

He still wasn't there on Christmas Day, but I could carry him with me knowing that I had just seen him and spoke with him the night before. My most memorable Christmas was a number of years ago, my Dad was in the hospital (leg amputated) but because he was still hooked up to IV, he was unable to come home. Dad was in a ward (4 patients) - 2 were able to go for holidays but Dad and his buddy unable.
His sister in law worked at the hospital. Working with Betty, we were able to create a wonderful surprise that in involved other family and friends. It was kept a secret until Christmas Day. Betty arranged folding tables to be delivered and left outside his room.
Everyone else brought the decorations, table clothes, candelabra, hot turkey and gravy and all the fixings and we marched into his room! What a great surprise and smile and the comment "I knew you guys would figure something out!". There was 16 of us sitting at these long tables positioned end to end in the middle of the room. Dad and his room mate, Dennis had dinner in their beds while we were at their foot rails. Such a blast never to be forgotten!!!

Glad your eye surgery is behind you and was successful! I have many Christmas memories, all revolving around our sons. First, years ago when they were all still young, we were coming home from Christmas eve service, which at our church at the time, was 10 pm, so they were all grumbling and tired. At that moment, a green light starting going across the sky, rather like a search light but bright green. They were so excited that it was Santa on his way. Still don't know what it was, but it sure stopped the grumbling! Next, they always had a little tree in the hallway upstairs outside their bedrooms, and Santa would leave a little gift under it. They would be up like 3 am trying to be as quiet as possible, but they might as well have been a herd of bellowing buffalo up there unwrapping their little gift. How I miss those days!!! Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas and many opportunities to make new wonderful memories! Vanessa Totten

Favorite Christmas was when we actually had snow on Christmas Day here in eastern NC! It snowed Christmas morning and enough stuck to the ground that only my husband left to go to a nearby town to visit his parents after lunch. The children and I had a once in a lifetime (truly as they are now all grown and gone)to enjoy Christmas at home and with each other without spending most of the day traveling to visit relatives. My favorite Christmas memory!

I love your little blue farmhouse - a real treasure.

When I was about seven years old, I got to visit my mother (I had been living with my grandparents) and it was shortly before Christmas. It was night time after she had finished working and we bought a medium size tree and started dragging it home (my mom had no car and anyway she didn’t know how to drive). It began snowing, so she stopped at a small store and bought me a sled. There wasn’t enough snow for me to ride on it, but it was perfect for the tree. This was a special Christmas for me in 1950 / the falling snow was magical. It was so special to be with my mother.

This is my 1st Christmas memory. I was VERY little and we lived in an old farmhouse way out in the country off a gravel road about 8 miles from the nearest town. I was sitting at our kitchen table eating dinner with my family, when I suddenly looked up and there was a man with a white beard and red suit looking in our window. I was terrified. I quickly hid down under the table until he went away. My mom and dad quickly assured me that it was just Santa checking to make sure that we kids had been good all year round! :-)

That little house is adorable! it looks so prim and I would display it all year long! One of my favorite memories of christmas as a child and a tradition that we did with our children was to drive around the town in the evenings and look at all the house decorated with lights! Another that I did with my children that I never got to do as a child was to cut down our own christmas tree. The kids loved it and have now continued with that tradition with their own children! I remember my 6th. Christmas eve because I woke up to find Santa playing cards with my family by candle light and eating Christmas cookies!
That night we had a terrible snow storm, the was out, the windows in our farm house were frosted over & I recall the winds making snow drifts taller than I was.
Years later I found out that my sisters friend had dressed up as Santa for a party and the roads were so snowy that his car got stuck & my brother had to get him with our tractor.
That's one Christmas eve I'll never forget.

My favorite Christmas memory is of my two brothers (we are so close in age I feel as though we are triplets...I have a brother 1 yr older than me and another brother 1 year younger than me). My two brothers would wake up early on Christmas morning (I was a late riser) and would go through my stocking before I woke up....they would help themselves to what they wanted (usually candy) and would leave me what they didn’t want, lol. I’m sure they both had a good laugh over that one because I didn’t become aware of their ‘thievery’ until years later, lol.

Glad to hear your surgery was a success! I'm not sure I have one happy Christmas memory...but many. I remember that when we were children our mother always bought icicle tinsel and my sister and I would put it on the tree one piece at a time...careful to make it hung straight down...we thought it looked so beautiful...I don't think that tinsel is even made anymore. I also have lots of happy memories of my children and their joy of the Christmas season.

Very generous giveaway! When I was little we used to go downtown on Thanksgiving evening and that was the day that the department stores in our small town would reveal their Christmas window displays. One in particular always had a big display in their corner window around a particular theme--Santa's workshop, animals celebrating the season in a snowy landscape--it was just magical to me.

Beautiful ornament ~ reminds me of my little blue house when I lived in GA.
My favorite Christmas memory ~ I always had a small Christmas tree in my bedroom. I loved going to sleep with the tiny lights glowing in the dark. It was so peaceful & comforting!

My favorite Christmas was in 1993. I was only married for six months, I was pregnant with my first daughter. I lost my job in November and my husband’s dealership closed down at the beginning of December leaving him unemployed. Not only did he not have a job, but the owners of the dealership had been taking money out of his paycheck for insurance premiums and not paying. So we had no health insurance, which I found out at my first prenatal appointment. Because we had no money we gave everyone handmade gifts for Christmas. I taught my husband to cross stitch and he ended up loving it. My Dad also ended up being hospitalized later Christmas night and passed away New Years Eve. This was my favorite memory because we had no money, but we had each other and I was able to spend one more Christmas with my Dad before he passed. This may not be the happiest memory on here, but I am truly grateful for that Christmas with my family. 💗
