~ Wooly Goodness ~

It is always a pleasure to have folks come by the shop on Saturdays ~
either for a shopping visit to quickly pick up supplies,
or to spend some time with me while I hook, punch or stitch.

Yesterday was a fun one enjoyed with Nancy, Sharon & Joan ~
hooking, laughing and eating fresh baked goodies and drinking our tea
{thank you Nancy for your wonderful scones!}

We were also visited by a sweet friend whom I haven't seen in a couple of years,
and she brought along a rug for us to drool swoon pine over...
umm... see up close and personal.

Patti Black Lightfoot and her handsome and obliging hubby JT
came for a visit from 'over the mountain' :)

Patti is also a member of my Out of Hand Rug Hookers Group on Facebook.
She had posted her finish of "Pineapple Chicken Bus" ~
 {{{ a design by Barb Carroll of Woolley Fox fame }}
but
I had NO IDEA this was as MASSIVE as it truly is!
All hooked in a 9.5 cut!!!!

Below we can see sweet Patti, smiling down on her creation ~
which she beagn just this past January 1st!
~
amazing
stupendous
just so beautiful.

and now can you see it's size?
yup...a big one at 51 inches x 87 inches.

lovingly and perfectly color planned for such a folky rug....
the rug 's name cracks me up too.

why "Pineapple Chicken Bus?"
Patti says,
"...the pineapple in the center is as big as a bus"
 and I the chicken is just plain folky-goodness!

she personalized her rug with the date she finished, in a smaller blue block {shown below} that is in memory of the 'hobos' that would use symbols for one another
to tell of safe-havens and friendly folks who they could rely on
for a meal, spiritual guidance, healthcare or night's rest...

Patti says the symbols represent:
an Open Gate {4 straight lines}
Free Meal with Religious Talk {the Cross}
Fresh Water {the Pump}
the letters "OK" {meaning the folks were kind}
and Patti says she wasn't sure of the 'wavy lines', but I looked up 'Hobo/Railroad Symbols'
and it seems to represent either a dog, or a barking dog...

....just fascinating to me!

While Patti was looking around in the shop,
she spotted some wool that we carry that she used in her rug
{that made me so happy! we carry wools here in the shop from The Wool Studio {as-is},
and some of Mary Henck's Wool Garden {hand dyed}as well as recycled wools, too.}
 so we set them next to the hooked portion on the rug where the wool was used:

windowpane plaid for the white stripes in the flag ~

oatmeal colored plaid ~ for background of that fabulous chicken!

and what I call a 'sarapi' stripe,
which Patti used all along her border for a perfect hit or miss look ~

 Nancy, Sharon, Joan & I just couldn't get enough of this rug of Patti's...
we had to keep Joan from laying down and rolling around on it like a kitten on a carpet!
and now we all want to hook something huge in a larger cut...

Many thanks to you Patti, for allowing us to see your handwork in person ~
you've surely encouraged us to break out of our comfort-zones and go for it!

Blessings from the Farm ~
 Lori

Thanks for the lovely comments Lori. I had such a wonderful time yesterday. Can't wait to visit again. It was so good to see you and spend some time sharing with you, Nancy, Sharon and Joan. JT enjoyed bonding with Peter over woodworking and sharing ideas. We will see you again soon. Promise to bring some hooking next time.

...Lori, sounded like the purrrfect Saturday, hooking day with the girls (sure wish I lived closer)! What a FUN & WHIMSICAL {large} beautiful folky rug; a good ol' Barb Carroll design! I just love those 'hobo' symbols which really {personalized it}, well done Patti! Nice to see a BIG RUG done in a large cut like 9.5...something I've been wanting to tackle for a long time too! Get 'er done, kind of rug (no muss, no fuss)!

Glad you're feeling much better Lori & moving along well into this new year! Happy {{~♥~}} month to you & Peter ~~
