It isn't very often that I make a rag doll anymore ~
in fact, I haven't brought one to 'life' in a few years…
but
as I am always pinning wonderful things on Pinterest,
I enjoy looking at the old & worn early dolls and playthings of our youthful past.
Inspiration hit,
and as an 'in-between' sort of project,
I made HER ~
not fancy by any means.
in fact, she was made entirely from humble-scraps
~ found here in my over-flowing sewing room.
her head/body is made from an old piece of linen I found on my travels to Pennsylvania.
her arms are made from another type of early linen that I believe I found in Ohio…
her features were penciled-on,
then I went over them lightly with a sepia-colored ink
with a scratchy, feathery hand.
her legs are made from cotton ticking in cream & black
and her dress is a piece of an old old quilt top that was hand pieced together... long ago.
~ the quilt cottons are quite crisp!
her hair is a simple piece of black silk ribbon ~
and is she is entirely stuffed with more clean fabric scraps.
I hand stitched her and also treadle machine sewed her body parts.
~ she is signed & dated by me too.
she is some-what heavy & nicely floppy,
as any 'old' girl should be ~ tee hee!
I think I'll name her
"Arabella"
Arabella is approx. 20 inches tall.
if you have room in your heart & home for her.
{{She promises to help you with the sweeping & dusting,
and she makes hotcakes that are as light as air.}}
She has been ADOPTED ~ Thanks so much!!
