I'll be doing a little black friday shopping today ~
need some supplies to finish up a couple of things for the
Christmas Open House which is only almost a week away!
my first stop:
Fabric Shopping ~
If I can't find what I need in my overflowing boxes, bins and shelves of fabrics... then I just. don't. need. it. |
next stop ~
Magazines and Books:
every category you could possibly think of ~ home decor, quilting, painting, drawing....this list is endless. |
I could use some sewing notions too...
threads, buttons, ribbons & rug hooks all at my disposal! |
I need some stuffing too.
hmmm....lets see...
there are fabric scraps, old cotton batting from raggedy quilts, and of course, baskets of sawdust. |
and lets not forget to hunt for some antiques ~
this section offers pin keeps, scissors and such ...
lots & lots of 'stuff' to be found here ~
where am I shopping today?
why, my own sewing room, if you haven't guessed by now....
no, I won't be supporting any big-name stores today.
no malls or crowds.
no having to spend my hard earned money
on the ridiculous price of gasoline to burn it up waiting in traffic ~
I'll recycle yet again and feel so good about doing that...
I'll visit my fields and woods to gather finds,
and will rely on my own farm for inspiration for creating gift for my friends & family.
Use it up,
Wear it out,
Make it do ~
or Do without.
...that's my black friday motto!
* Blessed be *
Lori

Lori this is the best post I have seen so far!!! But I am not surprised! Your blog is always awesome. Good for you Lori. I just finished asking my husband what are these big deals everyone is going for? I haven't heard a thing and I just don't care!!!
Have a great day staying warm and not getting pushed around hahaha!!

Love your kind of Black Friday shopping, Lori! I'm staying home too and "shopping" for things in my home. It's crazy how the focus of Thanksgiving Day...a lovely, true American holiday....has turned into such a greed ridden weekend all engineered by big business....I'm not supporting the big named stores either. I'm waiting for the "small business shopping day" tomorrow. I will do my best to help support those around me and online, who make a living on following their dreams and creativity! Have fun shopping!
Love this! I am doing the same! We are doing a 'recycle' Christmas here! I am making our ornaments and decorations from things I am finding in the house. Such fun!
Amen to that! I'm safe in my home today too... quilting... and still stuffing my face with turkey leftovers... lol!
Moose-y, recycling the turkey is the best part of the meal!!

Me too Lori! I can't stand all the commercialization that comes with this time of year. Going to my sewing room to shop now! LOL Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
This is a great post! I plan on taking a big sack full of crafts I've made over the years and pass it around for family and friends to have a handmade gift from me this Christmas. I sew all year long and sell on etsy, but there is always left overs to share. The only black Friday I have done this year has been online, no driving anywhere for me. I have had a good time just staying home this year. Peace and Hugs, Jaja
What a wonderful post. I'm with you, too. I wouldn't shop today if everything was free. I've never been one to like crowds, and the pushing and shoving to buy things that will be pushed aside in a month...not for me. I plan to spend some time in my sewing room, too, and then plan to pick up my needle and thread tonight and cross stitch on a sampler until my eyes won't stay open any longer. Yep, that's MY kind of Black Friday! Have a great weekend! :)
I'm with you 100%, Lori. I have never participated in the commercial Black Friday, and I never will. Plan to do a little needlework by a crackling fire, and then enjoy Thanksgiving left-overs!
omg, I love the little shelf with pinkeeps !!!!! NO Thanksgiving shopping, NO Black Friday shopping here....just staying as far away as possible from town...staying right here at home!
I did some shopping yesterday before DH and I went to dinner. I shopped in my attic :) I had some "treasures" packed away up there that I had forgotten about. It was like Christmas...haha. Went out today to Joann's for floss. Looked at the looong lines and turned around and left. Guess I'll pay the extra on floss some other time.
Love it! I'm at home this weekend still remembering to give thanks. Christmas will continue to be handmade as I savor the season.
Amen Lori!
That's the way to do it.
Blessings to you this season
And the perfect motto indeed m'dear!
Spent the day at my moms, putting up her new curtains and decorating for Christmas for her. Better than being in the insane stores!
Tho . . . . I am headed to an antique show tomorrow!
Justification . . . recycling and re-using . . sometimes you just need a new something OLD!
Happy stitches!

Good for you, Lori. Whenever I "shop" my sewing room, I always find great things. Especially things I'd forgotten all about.
The only shopping I did today was in Amherst for gifts for my Senior Citizen. The Amherst Women's Club is working with Home Instead Senior Care to provide Christmas gifts.
I'm also busily stitching for the Second Stage sale on Dec. 8th.
Love seeing pics of your sewing room!
love your idea of shopping too!
I was on the road by the big shopping centers taking Mom to therapy this morning...the cars and crowds we saw hold no appeal...it was back home to stitch for us...
Love the way you shop;-) You know, if you need more fabric I would be willing to part with some for those lovely old Country Living mags..LOL. I find one of those about every 6 months or so...heavy on the 'or so'.
blessings, jill
