it's Sunday evening ~ the sun is setting (6:30 pm)
and I am enjoying some quiet time in my hooking chair.
I decided to use a pale blue & cream checkered flannel cotton fabric for 'flowers' on my trees...
(well, perhaps they're no longer trees then?)
that's ok, whatever they have become, I'm happy with them!

starting on the background.... |
I enjoy hooking with cotton fabrics ~ homespuns, calicos, repro prints, solids...
I like how they fray a bit and make puffy little loops when pulled.

here is a shot out in the full sun...
yep....I like it.

will leave the date blue to 'bounce' with the blue flowers. |

this one below is hooked with dirty white wool, that pale blue/cream flannel
and a tiny bit of indigo calico in the center.

I think hooking with fabric ages my rugs and adds lots of interest, too!
love my blues ~ |
after dinner, I'll work on the background more.
it will be a mix of blacks, brown/blacks & dark browns.

I'll use some cotton fabrics in the background as well,
...after I get all of the motifs outlined with wool first.
So, Miss Flea & I are ALL registered to go to the Woolen Willow's Quilt & Rug Hooking retreat!
I hope to see lots of you there...
I'll be drawing up a special rug to hook
....just for the retreat :)

I am loving this project of yours! It has been such fun to see it evolve! I have been hooking as well...as a newbie, I am inspired by your original ideas. I find rug hooking to be very satisfying; I also stitch samplers, quilts, and I knit, crochet, and spin.
Evening, your rug is so beautiful, I didn`t know you could use flannel, cotten in hooking, thought only wool....Thanks for letting me know, Warm Blessings Francine.
Your rug is looking fabulous!! Love all the colors, and the blue flowers add a really nice touch!!

the quilt and rug hooking retreat sounds wonderful...can't wait to see your new rug...
I LOVE your hooked rug and all of your creations. Just a suggestion in my humble opinion...would you consider shortening her tail up a wee? Might give her more of a lamby look? Still adore whatever you make!
Dear Lori,
Thanks so much for mentioning our retreat on your blog and for signing up for the retreat!!! We sisters from the Woolen Willow can't wait to see you in Wild & Wonderful WV on April 25th!
