Welcome Little Stranger...

So very nice to meet you!
...we've been waiting a long time for you,

and finally you're here!
This is our FIRST-ever
PEACOCK baby!!!!
and he (she?) is HUGE!!!
( I will call him a 'he' until knowing otherwise)
yes, as small as he looks in my hubby's safe hands,
he is humongous compaired to our 'regular' babies...chickens, that is.
If his coloring is any clue now as to what it will be
when he is older,
he will be a
and an adult, white male peacock looks like
lace when he opens up his tail...
just beautiful.
so, there you have it...
our first...
we have 5 more eggs in the incubator,
so I'll keep you posted on the 'arrivals'...
on another note,
Robin & I wen to Roanoke, VA yesterday...
I had received a phone call from a woman that
said her Mom had passed away in December,
and that she was an avid rug hooker...this woman was honoring her Mom's last wish to donate ALL
of her rug hooking 'stuff '
to a teacher...and she picked
I brought home
rubbermaid totes FULL of wool, loads of patterns on linen & burlap,
a frame and a bliss cutter!
(and I haven't even unpacked the car yet, that was just what we saw when we got there.
I will unpack today & tomorrow, and share pics of the goodies then...
I am truly blessed to have been chosen by this wonderful woman who loved her Mom so much...
Wishing everyone a Safe, Happy & FUN
Memorial Day...
please remember our heroes...

An Apple a Day...

I'm going on a diet...
Starting tomorrow,
I'm starting the Opossum diet.

apples, green grapes...
a mashed banana;

fresh baby spinach leaves,
garden-ripe strawberries....

plenty of fresh, cool water,
lots of play.
lots of washing & preening~
LOTS of sleep!

(sounds like a great way of life, no?)

These little Velcro Monkey-Mice
have completely stolen my heart,...
their little faces are imprinted in my thoughts,
and I am
... smitten.

{"say Cheese"}

I know that some of you may consider them beastly,
and they are "rodents"...
I would rather spend my time caring for them,
{making sure that when they are released,
they will lead
...full little oPossum lives}
than spend my days
worrying about the economy,
the price of gasoline,
poor health
or any other negative thing in the world
right now.

yes, I do wear Rose-Colored glasses,
and tend to see things in an Optimistic way...
it's just my nature, I suppose
... and it's with
that I want to stay...

Wishing you all bright and positive thoughts,
Blessings from the Farm,

a bird-brained idea....

This morning,
I took "Stinky", "the Penguin" and "Little Peep"
out to the barn for a visit with their older siblings...
(yeah, I know, their names...we'll not go into all that right now, k!?)

At first, 'everyone' was curious to see the Three Amigos...
stretching their little chicken-necks for a better,
...but still far-enough-away look.

was happy to see them,
and stood as tall as he could on his one little leg,
balancing and twirling joyfully, peeping at everybody...
until finally tired, resting in the corner...

Little Peep
(who is yellow and hidden under Stinky in the picture above)
her siblings one little bit..
nope...she promptly dashed under Stinky's wing,
where she can usually be found.
(He has become a surrogate "mama" for all the newbies)

The Penguin
who is standing closest to a resting Stinky (in pic above)
was completely bewildered by the excitement.
he just kind of stood there, dumbfounded...

"the Family" came closer,
that's when all chicken-hell broke loose!

The Family
must have decided that the Interlopers
would eat their food, and promptly began pecking at them,
in a complete frenzy of flapping and hollering
which now had the whole barnyard nuts!!

Little Peep knocked Stinky up-and-over in her mad-rush
to get the heck outta Dodge,
Stinky was squawking at the top of his tiny lungs~
and the Penguin,
still standing there frozen,
was bowled over by the now maniacal hysteria of a
small but powerful
Chicken Gang gone Mad.

I scooped them up,
shoved them in my bra
(not alot of room in there, folks)
and ran back to the farmhouse...
where I placed them, after many apologies,
and kisses on their little pecked-heads,
back into their safe, calm environment...

You can bet safely that these three will end up as
...House Chickens.
Peter will build a special coop for them,
but for now,
they will continue to live contendedly
in our laundry room/enclosed back porch...
sharing it, of course,
The Opossum Family
(update on them tomorrow!)
hoping your day is a calm and peaceful one,
with no rude interuptions, nice people and perhaps...
a little peck
from someone you hold Dear.

The finish ~

Here is the cover model for
"A Harvest of Primitives" book...
((i showed you the sneak peek yesterday))

I decided to cover the back with a nice red/mustard/brown PA German-type fabric,
then added a braided border made from homespuns in browns, butter and cream.

I like the way it plays down the colors of the actual punched piece...
{what do you think???}
Peter is feeling better today,
..although I 've never seen him sleep so much in our entire marriage.

I'll see you soon and we can celebrate then, Lou!!!
I love you!!!!

We finally have some sunshine today,....
hoping to mow the grass this aft.
wishing you all a *SPARKLING* day!!!

"A Winter's Walk"
and share that WIP pic, too.
Thank you for all of your pre-orders!!!
I will be getting these out as early as Monday, June 1st
if you'd still like to pre-order...
rainy again here today...
we're sprouting mushrooms and moss everywhere!

Peter is home sick today...he woke me up about 1:oo am with a fever & chills,
...headache & yucky belly.
OH my stars
there is NOTHING on Earth the woes of a sick man...

playing Opossum....

no, your not seeing things....

these are three baby opossums that Hannah & I are holding.
You see,
after our most wonderful shopping & dining date with Lee & Robin,
we were driving back home and came upon a poor Mother Opossum
that had been hit...
she was still alive, but hurt...and her little ones were scattered all over the road...
well, Lee, being an animal lover, pulled over and I, well, being an animal FANATIC,
jumped out & gathered up the ones I could.....
stuffed them into my shirt and climbed back into their car...
then the tears came...
I am SUCH an empath, I can't stand the thought of an animal suffering...
(Lee and Robin, I do apologize for my emotional lack of control!!!)

here we are today...
with three little monkeys.
they are adorable...YES they are!!!!
and I'm trying to feed them with wartmed milk mixed in with a little wet cat food.

there is anyone out there familiar with rescuing baby Opossums,
would you mind helping us out?
they look to be only a couple of weeks old...
we will be calling our local Game & Wildlife Authorities monday morning,
but in the meantime,
we have three darling little lives to take care of.
any help would be appreciated!!

Finally !!!!

Here are the Goodes!!!!
this is by far the coolest thing I found on Girls Day Out...
it's a Tin Dishrack !!!
it even has a tiny little screened portion for utensils...
don't know if maybe this was used for camping perhaps, but I HAD to have it!!!
it will accompany me to the Summer in the Valley show in July,
and I have been collecting little children's tin plates to display in it...
how sweet!!

Below, is a grouping...
a grey graniteware child's potty,
a small ceramic bowl with animals on it,
an OLD hand-mixer/beater,
some baskets,
a flour sack,
and two early children's school-books....
(the little red table that their on was a steal too)

This BEAUTIFUL, early Summer quilt
has sweet calico's
and shirtings from the late 1800's ~ early 1900's
a couple of usual stains, but no rips or tears at all
(bought this for 1/2 price!)

this was being called a
Laboratory Desk...
said it came out of
Randolph Macon Women's College
here in Lynchburg, VA...
I think it is so neat!!

a VERY good day indeedy!!!
today will be spent working in the shop garden, weeding (again)~
then stitching finished samplers for the July & September shows...
beautiful sunny skies this morning!!
Oh & I almost forgot!!!
We are EXPECTING !!!!!!
{{Baby Peacocks, that is...sorry Mom}}
their eggs are almost ready to hatch!!!!!!!
I have never seen a baby Peacock before, you can be sure I'll be taking & sharing LOTS
of snaps!!!!!!!
have a wonderful, creative & productive day my Friends!!!
Blessings from the Farm,

I have been trying for TWO DAYS to post pictures of my goodes here on this
razzemfrazzem blog!!!

Just You Wait!....

You'll have to wait til tomorrow to see the Goodes from today's
"Girl's Day Out"
with Robin

the things I found!!!!
an old quilt,
wood wick candles,
all sorts of tin things~
a tombstone shaped box,
what else...
a WAY cool "laboratory" desk,
a grey graniteware child's potty...
oh...let's see...

I CAN'T REMEMBER it all!!!
and right now it is stuffed into the back of my minivan,
waiting patiently for me to unwrap & un-bag each little treasure!

I will do that in the morning...because,
In today's mail came the new
and today I bought the new
SIMPLE LIFE magazine, along with the new
BH&G Gardens magazine...
and I want to read them...
but I can't do that either!!!
because I am tired & need to cook supper, then get ready to watch
{{{GO LEE!!!}}}

so, you'll have to wait till tomorrow to see the pictures of my goodes...
& I'll have to wait til tomorrow to peruse my new mags...

**Update on Stinky the Chicken**
He (she?) may not even BE a chicken after all...
we think he (she) may even be a GUINEA HEN!!! LOL!!!
we'll soon tell, for he matures, and IF he's a guniea,
... the noises will soon commence!!!

but he (for lack of knowing what to call him) is amazing...
...he looks like a ballet-dancer doing pirouettes...
sweet, little Stinky!!!

it is worked on 32 ct hand-dyed linen, 1 over 1 threads...

I love doing these "in between" projects, or 'smalls' ~
whilst I'm working on my larger needlework pieces...
I am making more progress on my
"Witch's Garden" sampler,
and here are the names of the other's I'll be stitching up soon thereaft:

"In the Grave"

"Salem Scholehouse"

and let's not forget,

"A Plump Wife"

(the last one on the list is giving me grief...
I've totally redesigned it...

Rainy here today,
will be heading to the PO & bank.
then back to my stitching chair...

{{{{{don't forget to check my ebay auctions later for the pocket!!}}}}}

{ I love my job...}

although, how can you call this work?
i mean,
having Good Friends come to my house,
to gather for a class is by no means work to me!!
yes, I put alot of thought & preperation into my classes,
hopefully by the smiling faces & laughter that fills the classroom,
you can tell that I really do love what I do.
these pics show yesterday's Braided Rug class...
we worked with wool, then fabric strips...

Nothin' fancy,
just the basics to get you started on your way....

being able to share what I know is my gift to you, and
in return, your friendships and support is the biggest gift I
could ever imagine to receive...

Thanks my friends for another wonderful day of your sweet company,
silly tales & laughter....
May your hands stay ever-busy!

This week has seriously flown by!
i swear, I just don't know where the time goes anymore~

it was just Saturday, wasn't it?

Speaking of Saturday,
tomorrow is our Braided rug Class here in the shop...
it is a FULL class! woohoo!!!
this morning will be spent readying the shop (read: cleaning)
and getting the supplies ready for the students...
should be a fun class & I'll post pics of our shenanigins on Sunday....
this afternnon, I'll be back in the farmhouse working on my Witch Garden Sampler...
it's coming along...
me thinks it is turning into a sort of band-sampler, but who knows...
I just follow my needle's coaxing!!!

here are my GAST threads hanging from my beloved & oh-so-helpful
Ott Lamp/Clamp/Magnifyer/Tray...
(I've told you all about this before, but it is theeeee best investment I've ever made...
especially now that these eyes of mine need more than my bifocals!)

being a needlework designer,
the Gentle Art company graciously sends me their beautiful threads
in hopes that I will use them in my designs...
...and that I do.

I always look forward to receiving a little envelope from them in the mail,
stuffed full of wonderful, new mouth-watering threads!!!

it's like holding a rainbow in your hands!!

...and, speaking of Rainbows;
the sun is predicted to shine this aft...
we'll see ~

Hoping your day is filled with beautiful colors!!!

The Morning Ritual ~

Pinocchio is usually the first one out of the barn in the morning~
he s-l-o-w-l-y walks out, yawning & sniffing the fresh morning air,
then proceeds to check on his surroundings...

in the paddock where he & Daisy 'live', there is a patch of dirt
that absolutely fascinates them...

Every day,
"Nocchi" saunters over to the dirt patch and gives it a good sniff...

...then plops his Big Self down and rolls around in the dirt like a humongous dog!!
with all the commotion, Daisy can't keep herself contained any longer....
she runs out of the barn to see what The Big Guy is doing.

Up comes Nocchi, and Daisy heads for the dirt, sniffing loudly ~

and, not able to contain herself a moment longer,
hits the ground with a thud and up go the legs...all akimbo in the air!
{{I tried to snap her legs in the air but she is fast!}}
and so it goes, every morning...

It's funny how we all have our routines.
...even the Animals.

The Grahics are by Amy at
aren't they beautiful???

someone who takes discarded things,
things that are forlorn, unwanted, forgotten...
and feathers their nest with them.

are you a crow too?

Blessings from the Farm,

Stupendous, Miraculous and Oh So CUTE...

A Mother's Hands....

You said:
"See how pretty your hands are next to mine?"
I didn't tell you, but even then I knew your hands owned the greater strength...
Strong enough to work the Earth until it yielded up food for our bodies and flowers for our souls.
Gentle enough to cool a fevered child.
Quiet enough to hold an unhappy young woman, never claiming to solve,
only to understand....
Nimble enough to out-quilt me three blocks to one.
~ They slowed me when I would have gone too fast,
and nudged me when I would not start at all...
and when I remember all the times the touch of your hands have made me feel loved,
I want to say,
"See Mother? How beautiful your hands are holding mine...."

~poem by Ruth Siburt

Throughout out lives,
as we count our successes and pat ourselves on the back~
How seldom do we remember who it was that began it all.
I was very fortunate in the decision of the Universe
that I be given to the woman I now know as my Mother...
for it was she who taught me how to care,
... how to love
and how to be free.

I Love You Mom...

and Happy Mother's Day to all of my family & friends!!!!

Update: "stinky"

Yes, "STINKY"...
I won't go in to details as to why we call him that,
... but I'm sure you can guess!

actually, I started calling him Stinkerpot~
because is is SPOILED ROTTEN!
there isn't enough time in my day to hold him as much as he wants me to...
He whoops and hollers and runs, (yes RUNS) amok in his little cage
until I reach in....
then he hops into my hand and snuggles into my fingers like a peep would do
under any big-fat-chicken-mama's feather...

excuse me...
I'm not your Mama...exactly...well,
I guess I am.
you can see how his little leg juts out behind him~
does this stop him?
oh no...he has been compensating the lack of leg-use,
with that of super-chicken-strength in his wings!
I have decided that he needs a chicken-friend...
i cannot be the ALL to him~
he needs to kknow how to act like a chicken!
so, in the snap above, you can see the tiny, fluffy "behind"
of that of a new-born (this morning!) hatchling
that has been keeping him company
all day today...

I think they've become fast-friends!
(how do I know???
...he hasn't said a 'peep' since he's been in there!)

Hoping your days are filled with kindness and care for others

Gifts from the Garden...

~ Harvested my first strawberries this morning~
the baby bunnies have been gnawing on these, I decided to get them before they're all gone!

just a handful,
but their delish & waiting for tomorrow's cereal bowl!!

and a little bouquet I stuck-together;
red & pink spring roses, coreopsis, spearmint & lemon verbena...
placed simply in an old canning jar & set into my little tiny cemenrt urn...
the kitchen smells wonderful!!

and a little stitching too~
the day isn't complete until I stitch, even just a little bit!

I call this type of stitching "plain-stitching"...
just random cross stitches to form letters, then words.
no pattern, no plan, just mindless stitching!!!
{{just my kind !!!}}

a little something....

i made a little sewing box...
{ok, not so little...}
it is an olde box, filled with linens, & thread & fabric & beeswax...
what could you possibly do with all of that?...
I'm thinking:
Stitch a Sampler!!
For your sheer amusement,
I've listed a Sewing Needfuls Box on ebay
a perfect gift for yourself or stitching-friend,....

A Helping Hand...

this is my little friend...
I have been caring for him now for almost 4 days...
he is so tiny, and as you can tell by his feet in the picture, he is crippled.
...born that way.
came to us in an eggshell too small for his little (big) body
... and when he was hatching he couldn't get out in time...
so I helped him along, like I helped the others that needed it too.

He will never walk, run or scratch at the dirt.
he may not even make it at all....
that isn't stopping him from having a ferocious appetite,
and a very strong will to live...
he hops like a little frog, and is strengthening his spindly left leg by doing so ~
...his right leg is completely backwards and of no good use to him,
but i don't hink he minds at all.

what he does mind, is if I'm not holding him,
helping him to eat & drink
and helping him balance on that one little 'good' leg...
if he's without me for a minute he starts peeping at the top of his little lungs!

and I am always happy to oblige,
....lending a helping hand to a
~ Friend~
