~ Diversions & Conversions ~

Hello Friends & Folk!
and a happy Spring almost - April Sunday to you all ~

Yesterday I spent hours charting new designs into my computer software program...
only to have them mysteriously change symbols and colors
when I tried to preview or export the files to PDF.

FRUSTRATING is not even the word to describe how I felt,
 so I tried to contact the Ursasoftware Co. to get help...still haven't heard back from them ~

 So I called Apple and got the sweetest lady to help me...not that she was familiar with the software program I use for designing cross stitch, but ~ she is a cross stitcher!
... between her helping me with corrupt files and technical-computer-stuff, we chatted about stitching ~ she told me that years ago she even cross stitched a cover for her family bible!
isn't it nice to connect with other lovers of needlework?

After recovering only 2 of my many charted files,
I needed a serious break ~ a Nature Diversion...
so I grabbed my camera and went for a walkabout in the farmyard...

Boy it has been 'greening' nicely with the warmer temps and sunshine...
our sleeping flower friends are waking up!
wild hyacinth and tete d' tete daffodils

 aren't the leaves of my snowball bush gorgeous?

love that orange-y center ~

my favorite tiny flower has always been violets...

uh oh!
looks like 'someone' tasted the leaves on this daffy:

aren't they cute....

even our catnip is growing!
Minew and the 'kittens' have already been munching on this :)

after my walk, I still couldn't bring myself to get back on the computer
so I did what I love ~
played with threads and fabrics to get back to my Stitching....

I rooted through some of my linens and have chosen the following
for 3 new upcoming designs for Summer:
left to right they are:
30ct Weeks Dye Works 'Straw'  ~  35ct Weeks Dye Works 'Cornsilk'
and 28ct Picture This Plus 'Wren'

don't you LOVE them?

This project, below ~ is an upcoming Hallowe'en design for 2019:
was started a couple of months ago...then put aside.
it is being worked on 32ct Weeks Dye Works 'Parchment'
with Gentle Art & Weeks Dye Works threads ~

love her little face & feet ~ & oh those colors!

I am keeping this work in progress in my favorite 'Witchy' project bag from Lela Mae Designs ~
here is the link to their Facebook page:

 I purchased this bag at last year's PSS Retreat in Lancaster PA
from the Lela Mae booth...of course it had to come home with me ~
 it has my sweet friend Lisa Roswell's {the Primitive Needle} "Witchy" design sewn into it...

it is perfect and beautifully constructed ~
love the fabric choice the girls made for not just the outside,...

but the inside lining too!

and the zipper-pull is this tiny arachnid-friend

While playing in my Threads ~ I came across 2 conversion charts that I had,
so I copied them and pasted them for you!
~
 feel free to save them to your computer,
 then you can print them out and keep them in your project bag ~

~ My Heart ~

Home is where the heart is...
Home is where they love you ~
Home Sweet Home.

Good Morning Friends & Folk,
and happy Wednesday to you all!

What a crazy-busy moth December is for our family...
online sales, open houses, birthdays & Christmas celebrations surely keep us on our toes!
are we tired? yes, a smidgen,
~ but we wouldn't want it any other way.
keeping our hands & hearts busy is what we love to do ~

I know how busy you all are too this time of year
with baking, decorating, shopping, cleaning & wrapping gifts...
but please,
make sure you spend some time doing something you love
... a gift just for yourself

I have been designing more hooked rugs lately...
{{ really getting back to my first-love of rug hooking & working with wool }}
and will be offering not only paper patterns {mailed & downloadable}
 but patterns drawn directly on linen for you too!

here's one in progress on my hookinpunch frame,
 a simple design called
"This Place"

a very primitive design ~ and nice size at 13" x 25"
hooked with muted colors and random dark background...
BUT the border will be very different from what I've ever hooked before,
a super-scrappy hit or miss border using very old looking tones
of textured wools from my scrap baskets.

... you can see I've drawn in my 'squiggle-lines' with my sharpie ~
these are just a guideline for the direction & placement for my rows...
{{ which may or may not change as I'm hooking them! }}
HA!

I may try to get a little Frying-Pan Dyeing in this afternoon,
after all of the orders have been packaged & shipped today...
I'll share photos of my dyeing using that method soon...

did you know I'll be holding a class on Frying-Pan Dyeing here at the Farm Shop??
class is on February 18th...
I have only 2 spots available as I am limited to only 6 students.
if you'd like to sign up for the class, please email me
notforgottenfarmwitch@gmail.com and I'll make sure to save a seat for you!
a fun class, and an easy dyeing technique!

also, on January 21st I'll be teaching a 'Hook a Sampler" class
at the Farm Shop as well...again, limited seating and its filling up quickly!

I hooked this rug, below,
 in 2003, when we first moved here to Virginia from Connecticut.
I usually bring it with me when at shows to display in my booth or on my table...

Here are a few random photos of the outside of the Farm Shop for you ~
we just love where we are...
quiet & peaceful
❤

~ a smattering of simple decorations ~

 ~ silver bells ~

 ~ good old stuff ~

 ~ dried gourds & grapevines ~

 ~ Pinocchio & Daisy ~
{love donkey-butts!}

 ~ the Farm Shop ~

I'll be teaching a private punch needle class here this Saturday, the 10th...
... but the Farm Shop will be open for those who wish to come for a visit to shop a little ~

{ spoiled rotten }

That's what he is...
spoiled rotten.
and he knows how to manipulate us with his charming little bird-personality.

see how he weasels his way into our hearts?
(and hair)...

see how coy he acts as he snuggles up against our cheeks?
...pitiful.

but we oblige him ~
we allow him to walk all over us
and nest in the crooks of our necks
for a short nap.

Hannah was home last weekend for a visit
...and met Mr. Peach for the 1st time.
it was love at first sight ~ for both of them.

what's not to love?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am home from a week's visit to CT ~
always good to see mom & my sisters...
the Brimfield show was great ~
beautiful weather, lots of walking, great food and thousands of vendors!
I didn't buy much ~
a small bag of whalebone buttons,
an old rug hook (told you i'd find one!)
and some cruddy old wooden boxes
...that will become pinkeeps.
I have been working on a book deadline,
and got alot of work finished for it while being up home.
this week will be filled with finishing up details, paperwork, filling orders...etc.
we are also planning on another update here on the blog with new (and wonderful) items...
and I'll announce the date for that soon ~
In the meantime, I have been designing new cross stitch patterns
...and hope to release them early to mid June ~
one is entitled
"Summerfield"
and the other is called
"Reverend Gourdon Squashbottom"
and I am hoping to get a couple more finished up ~
I almost forgot to tell you that I will have another design in the upcoming
which will be on newsstands in another month or so ~
never too early to think of Halloween around here!
...the design that will be in the publication is called
"Matilda Hornbuckle"
so sharpen those needles my friends, gather your flosses and linens...
there's lots of Good Things coming!
