Happy Tuesday to you all ~

have been having issues with our internet/computers lately, 

sorry for being MIA for a bit here ~

Today I wanted to share with you another room in Miss Joan's House Tour:

"Lori's Room" {yes, mine} 

🌝

 

this bedroom is my very favorite in the house, 

which our readers will know is an old Church Rectory... 

come on in and have a look around ~

Joan has a way of choosing the perfect color combinations,

although she will tell you she doesn't, 

and always asks me to help with her wools for her rug hooking...

these greens, mauves, pinks and creams 

all go together perfectly ~

she collects SO many things,

 like her tole painted tinware trays hanging above the beautiful iron double beds...

as well as her love for pyrography, the art of woodburning:

 

Joan's collection of celluloid is only partially shown here...

she has much, more believe me ;)

the shelf above the fireplace is an organ top...awesome!

Joan's handiwork can be seen in every nook and cranny of her home

...the fireboard scene was painted by her, her beloved Arthur also created the board for her.

 

more collections below include flower/floral frogs.

you know, those cage/wire/spikey things we find at antiques malls?

yep. Joan has a few....{she has more in her kitchen, stay tuned for when we share that}

and you can see more of her painting on the quilt rack and shelf to match;

 

My friend has always been crafty, 

she says this little turtle embroidery was the first one she ever stitched. 

♡

her attention to detail is evident in every room of her home,

nothing is left plain...even her light covers are unique!

{little sailor-man doll is another thing miss Joan loves, her dear Arthur was a Navy man}

 

below the shelf of frogs, 

hangs a vintage item that was used to store sewing needfuls...

it looks like a clothespin holder, but the hand-scripted tag inside 

has a poem about putting thimbles in the tiny pockets! 

child's doll quilts reign high among Joan's favorites too!

 

small antique sewing machines are also on her list of things to collect

...here is a hand-crank model, below:

{in an upcoming tour, we will be showing her sewing room....you will not want to miss that!}

Joan & Arthur spent many wonderful years 

lovingly working on and decorating their home together...

this closet below shows Arthurs' woodworking skills ~ 

he built this around the old shuttered doors:

a doll-baby crocheted pillow rests on one of the beds ~

 

while yet another sailor lad keeps a watchful eye on her 

from the other bed...

 

more of Joan's painting is shown on the tin lamp and round carrier under the table ~

 

on th eother side of the room is a beautiful dresser

that holds more celluloid and pyrography pieces -

the rack on the wall is a tie rack!

 

always paying attention to detail,

Miss Joan not only made the curtains and seat cover for the hamper below...

 

but she also painted the floorcloth under the hamper to match the fabric!!

clever girl she is :)

 

everywhere you turn in this warm, inviting home

you can see the love Joan & Arthur have put in it....

 

an old advertisement for Spalding's Glue rests happily on an old writing desk ~

{Spalding is Joan and Arthur's last name}

~ Joan's House Tour - Part 4 ~

... are you ready for this? 

welcome to another edition of Joan & Art's Home Tour

 ~ The Laundry Room ~

 Part 4

if you're not a huge fan of doing laundry, 

you might just become one after seeing this:

Joan & Arthur's home is beautiful all year long, 

but it's in the Spring that we get to see some of their bulb plants blooming in the sunshine.

here's a small daffodil welcoming us inside...  

 

The Laundry Room is located on the basement-level in their home...

and to get there you must first come down this staircase 

to which Joan has added her magic touch ~

 

Joan has a talent for faux-painting ~ the block wall and stone are not real :)

Once we reach the bottom step....

 hello Laundry Room!

but it's not just a place where Joan does her wash...

it is yet another canvas that she has turned into something wonderful ~

filled with their collections and masterful artwork ~ as well as Art's craftsmanship in renovating!

the floors are not real brick ~ 

they have been transformed once again by Joan's hand, and the all-over stenciling adds such a folky-ness and warmth to an otherwise utilitarian room...

at every turn, you will see beloved treasures like the antique stove 

~ which is used to display vintage items...

tucked into a small cubby to the right of the stove

are just one {of many} things she collects

Drying Racks! 

she cannot leave one behind on her travels if she finds one {two, three, four...}

standing racks, folding racks, umbrella-type racks...

yep, she's got 'em..

Moving around the room to the left of the stove,  

Joan has set up an old tub washer...

and a beautiful green wringer washer!

 {with more drying racks of course}

Joan's love for detail and display are evident ~

as well as her talent for making things a little more beautiful,

 like the 'Pantry' door she painted on the fuse-box cover...
{and that stenciling!}

 Collections of antique wash-day toys are everywhere in this sweet room...

nodding towards the days when little girls were happy to play with things like toy washers, 

irons & ironing boards

 and miniature clothespin & line sets.

a collection of crocheted pot holders acts as a cheerful swagged valance  

for a ground-level window...

the window itself was hand-painted by Joan to brighten it up even more :)

there are water sprinklers everywhere, like the red rubber and the lady-shaped ones below:

{used to sprinkle water on your clothes to iron the wrinkles out} 

the shelf above holds boxes and containers from days-gone-by ~

soap flakes, starch & powders...as well as wash pails, sock and glove stretchers 

 ~ and a sweet 'mammy' clothespin bag

On the opposite side of the room, is her washer & dryer...

but I swear they seem to disappear due to all of the other lovelies around the room!

 above the washer/dryer is yet another shelf... with even more sprinklers!

 and old farmhouse sink, a painted cabinet....

just more goodness :)

It never ceases to amaze me,

the way my friend has with collecting and decorating ~

Joan brings so much happiness and fun to the world...

I'm blessed to have her in my life.

~ Joan's House Tour - Part 3 ~

it's been a while, but here is Part Three of

Miss Joan's House Tour!

Miss Mookie greets us as we enter...

hello Mook!

 This tour is of her upstairs hallway & bedroom...and this is at the top of the staircase...

the bench below was made by Arthur,  Joan's beloved and talented hubby ~

you can tell she loves to collect prim 'babies' 

;)

Joan has a knack of layering and staging vignettes all over her home...

using her collections {and there are MANY!} of textiles, dolls and other needful things ~

 

 this wall rack/shelf is hung in her stairwell, 

across from the bench above....filled with treasures.

 Below is the view of the end of the hallway...

with one bedroom doorway to the right, and her sewing room doorway {out of sight}to the left.

and I assure you, you have never seen anything like it before}

Joan is an accomplished Needlewoman in her own right...

she stitches, sews, hooks, punches...

she is quite the "arteest" too, painting and decorating are but a few of her skills...

here are just a few needlework samplers in her collection:

these are all antique/vintage.

as I've mentioned before, Arthur & Joan's home was once a Church Rectory...

and their antiques business is named Olde Rectory Antiques.

They sell their wares at Dukes' Antiques Mall in Lexington, VA '

and lots of you have met them at shows/events.

She collects drying/hanging racks and this one below is her most recent proze we found on an excusrsion to the Factory Antiques Mall in Verona, VA.

I can tell you that the upcoming tour of her Laundry Room will leave you a little breathless too.

Oh yes, I almost forgot... she collects antique/early doll quilts too!!

here are just a 'few' on said rack ~

 And here is their recently repainted Bedroom...

could you resist from jumping on that big brass bed?

 Joan's eye for decor, along with Art's craftsmanship have brought this old home to full glory....

 She has paired-down her collections quite a bit in this room, making it a little more quiet than her other rooms ~ but...

there are still beloved collections like the celluloid clocks below,

and a gathering of beautiful doorstops 

sweetly tucked into the fireplace...

 

 

those that have seen my previous posts of her other rooms,

 know very well that Joan LOVES hooked rugs! 

they are literally everywhere in this house and they only make it more cozy & comfy....

here is a great example of a large, folky runner in her bedroom:

I love it ~
