I was poking around my little sewing room the other day,
looking for some frames ~ and found these two girls lurking in there...
i painted them in 2010.
as most of my readers know,
i like to flit between mediums so i don't get bored
(that will never happen.)
...or stale.
since I work with fibers so much, it's nice to do something which i call 'harder'.
not in the difficult sense, but in the application process.
not working with soft fabric and thread means i'm working on something that feels 'hard'.
(makes perfect sense to me!)
and as i've mentioned before, i call my style
"PRIMSICAL"
that makes sense to me too ~
a little primitive, a little whimsical.
'nuff said.
now, take a lookie at these girls.
they are colorful.
they are bright.
they are HOMELY!
but i love them.
their backgrounds and concept are inspired by our folk artist ancestors portraits.
except with my primsical twist...
they both have that far-away look in their eyes...a twinkle of wanderlust perhaps?
and this beauty, below...she has some boobs!
and, being in the dental field for many years,
I always seem to incorporate tiny-little-chicklet-teeth into my work...
have any of you noticed that?
ha!
they look a bit like they could have used some kind of treatment.
but again, i love how they look.
now I know that this type of work isn't everyone's cup of tea ~
and it just so happens that I'm sipping from mine as i write this...
and it just so happens that I'm sipping from mine as i write this...
but since i usually post about needlework,
i thought i'd let you have a peek into that other little side of me as a folk artist.
I will be placing these little works in my etsy shop soon,
along with a few others ~
hope i've amused you a bit!

No, I never picked up on the little teeth... but I'll watch for them now.

ps the red girl looks a wee bit like me ..lol
You know these are my cup of tea! They are wonderful Lori. I have the painting called "Dotted Swiss" redheaded gals I bought at one of your open houses in my kitchen. I look at it every day and never get tired of it. Primsical is pefect! I think you should trademark that! I think most of my work falls under that too.
