~ a new year ~

{{ welcome two thousand and nineteen }}

" Then out through the gates of the midnight—
The door of the past was ajar—
His robe like a shroud wrapped around him,
      The Old Year vanished afar.
And as morn with her soft rosy fingers
Flung open the gates of the East,
The New Year looked out from its chambers
With a smile and a blessing of peace."

~Eliza A. Wetherby Otis (1833–1904),

enjoying a peaceful & quiet
~ new years day ~

this new year i will find more peace ~
more joy to fill my heart & soul.

i will be softer, kinder...
and i will surround myself with the things i love most.

you will notice changes in me...
changes that have been coming for a while now ~
all the while embracing old ideas with new-found spirit and joy!

I AM
done with too much,
i want just enough.

finished with too big,
i ache for just right.

comfort, clarity and mindfullness are my keywords now.

each month I will continue to work on clearing out and cleaning up ~
keeping things more organized and simple
so that i may have more time to enjoy and create...

the old farmhouse smells like baking cornbread...
that will be eaten for tonight's supper with pork, black eyed peas & collard greens
as we have in many years past to bring us good luck ~

wishing you all a new year filled with quiet peace
a warm home filled with love
and simple creativity to keep your hands & mind busy.

Blessings from the Farm

  1. Oh so lovely! I agree with all! I am hoping to do some purging here on Winding Vine in 2019. I love the idea of "just enough"!
Happy 2019 to you and yours!

  3. There is a sense of calm in your photos. I've managed to sell off some of my dollmaking body parts and some feed sack fabric. Still more feedsacks to sell off and have been pleasantly surprised at the response.

    Happy New Year.

  10. I love this post...you nailed it! I am continuously "getting rid of stuff". I'm tired of moving it around! I did finally make peace with my closet. Every year, when the summer is over, I go to Target and buy their latest edition of a long sleeved black tee shirt. It's pretty much the only top I wear...with jeans, black pants, linen pants. I dress it up and down with scarves and jewelry. Finally, I bagged up the blouses and shirts I never wear and donated them hoping someone will enjoy them. It has made my life a lot easier...packing for our travels, buzzing around town....simplified! Next...???
    Feeling lighter,
    Robyn
