~ I'm SO Glad!! ~

I really am!

I am GLAD that I have Good Friends like Blaine
who share little secrets & tips with me ~

While she was here last weekend for Becky's finishing class,
I was punching on my When Pigs Fly #2 ~ on my gripper frame.

I was super nervous still about putting all of my loops onto the gripper teeth when it came time to move my work, even though sweet Julie Thomas has a great video on the subject.

So,
thoughtful Blaine suggested
Press 'n Seal from Glad
{{ what's that you say? }}

that's right.
she suggested that I try putting the Press 'n Seal on the front {loop} side of my project
to act as a layer between the weavers/loops and the gripper teeth.

 so I did.
I ripped off a piece of the sticky plastic and stuck it to my work.
~ it looks kinda cool under the layer of textured plastic, doesn't it?

I wanted to see exactly where I was putting my work onto the teeth,
so I flipped my Hookinpunch© frame over and placed it on top of my punching.

and lo & behold:
it works!
the gripper teeth go through the plastic, gripping onto the weavers cloth, BUT
it helps keep them away from my loops more than just placing them onto it.

but now comes the actual punching:
so just to make sure this would actually work,
I only punched a small row along the roofline of the house below.
and I found there is no problem punching through the plastic/weavers cloth.
& no real difference in the loops or anything.

when the punching is done, and you've removed your work from the frame,
all that's needed to do is gently lift away the now perforated sticky plastic to expose the loops :)

pure genius.

I am a Happy Girl!

  2. Press and Seal is a regular staple like freezer paper for wool applique! I use Press and Seal for transferring words to wool and it works great! I love multi-purpose items that you can find a the grocery store ;)

  3. Great to know for punch needle! It works great on the backside of hooked rugs when working with gripper frames. It saved a rug I was hooking using really soft wool, it would have been shredded if not for the press and seal plus I reused one piece over and over for the entire rug! Love this stuff!

  4. Awesome idea. I've used it in paper crafting but never thought about using it for punch needle. Brilliant!

  11. Great tip! Thank you!
What have you got wrapped around your punch needle? Does that help lessen hand strain?
