Flowers in December ~

Happy Wednesday Friends & Folk ~

thought I'd share some of my little flowers with you all today...
these sweet little geraniums were created by me using a needle weaving technique that I have become smitten with...

I've always been a fan of different' embroidery techniques...
and love the 3 dimensional look...

can you see how the leaves stand up from the flour cloth I'm working on??
I love this effect...
it lends such a fresh look to my projects, even though it is an ancient technique...

do any of you do this type of needlework?
would you be interested in learning how to do this?

    I would love to learn this technique. I use to do a lot of crewel...is it anything like that? What makes the leaves stand on their own? Are you using cotton thread? It looks wonderful.

    I am also interested in learning this technique, definitely. I've embroid-
    ered and did a little bit of crewel and candlewicking years ago.
    The technique is very different than
    what I'm familiar with and it lends a really cool look to the fabric.

    Lori, your needlework is awesome !! I started out doing crewel a long time ago when my kids were little..I did alot of pieces, some were really large and intriquite...Sadly, I don't even know what happened to them...I can only remember the French Knot now...lol...I'm sure I'd re-learn it quickly if I took the time ...You are making me want to sit down and try now !     I think I have made similar leaves to yours. They are on Sheepish Designs Temptation. They are little coverings on Adam & Eve--look here http://atwillowtreepond.blogspot.com/2011/03/two-more-crazy-january-finishes.html

    Hi Lori,
    My Grandmother did this type embroidery; she was a great needlewoman just as you are. I don't remember how she made the leaves stand up like that but your work is beautiful and it brings back such a precious memory. I have to try this. I believe she told me that this was a stitching she was taught by her aunt from the old country (Ireland) It is such a lovely work. Thank you for sharing, I'll be showing this post to my grand daughters. Have a wonderful Christmas.

    Gorgeous Lori - I did some silk ribbon embroidery for a while (hmmmm...still have a shirt I'm working on somewhere....) - this reminds me of it, but I've never heard of needleweaving before. And, uh, duh....of course I would love a new addiction.... ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
