Spring Cleaning ~

Brooms ~
all shapes and sizes fill my mind come this time of the year…

I love corn brooms, whisk brooms & old scrub brushes with wooden handles.

I collect children's brooms and dustpans ~
(((I even wear a tiny silver broom around my neck!)))

I was given a beautiful handmade cobweb broom by friend Gail for my birthday
that now hangs in my shop to be put to very good use ;)
~ thank you Dear friend for knowing my 'heart' ~

...something so simple as a broom
can 'sweep' my imagination
into concocting new needlework designs too.

...remember last year I offered the little
'Well Swept Farm' cross stitch design?

a small portion of my whisk broom collection

well I'm at it again,
...this time a new little whisk broom apron pattern will be offered for punch needle ~
I cannot wait to share it's finish with you!

love

but, before I show you that, I must finish this:
'Honey Girl'

back of my work

I like to see the back of my work with all of the textures and thread-ends…
lets me know how busy I've been!

close-up of back

...of course when you look at the front of the design at this stage,
everything looks like a blob ~ facial features and smaller details will take better shape once the background has been filled in….

front or finished side of my work

a 'crisper' look at the edges of the motifs,
...but shaggy from the thread-ends on the work-side…

punching her little skirt

 I've finished the
'Blessed Bee' pocket and am excited to show you that too ~
but you'll have to wait a bit more!!

I'm a busy little bee

Miss Felicia is working on two new designs for cross stitch ~
I'm working on the punch needle designs, and I may throw in a couple appliqué and/or hooked patterns for you as well ~

we'll see how the time goes between my Spring Cleaning
of this old farmhouse and the other chores to be done around here ~

...here is a snap of Pinocchio and little Miss Daisy taken this morning…
look closely at Daisy ~ she is giving me raspberries!
(click on the pic to enlarge it)

Daisy seems to be saying "who wants to clean on a beautiful morning like this?"

Hoping Spring is finally reaching you wherever you are!

* Blessed be *

  2. I was thinking about hand-made brooms last night. My son moved to the mountains of western NC last year and we attended Heritage Day at WCU in September. We met a man there that makes brooms - so, I need to find his address as I want to buy broom(s) from him. Plus, I am getting ready to take a class in Punch Needle. So, it will be great to have a design that fits my recent passion for brooms!

  9. Lori, I love your broom collection and needlework I've seen so far. I came over from Susan's blog, and have started following so I can receive your posts in my feed. I also really love the post on the farm friends and garden waking up - all those quiet moments you've observed and caught, so in tune with nature.

  10. Lori, I too love the brooms. I have a couple of cross stitched sleeves for them that I found the patterns for a couple of years ago. The ones I have are a witch and a snowman. Would you consider doing patterns for the sleeves? Would love to have more! They are stitched on high count fabric over one. Thanks, and I love your designs! Cheryl

  11. I love brooms, too. One of my prized possessions is a whisk broom holder that belonged to my great-grandmother. I wonder what she would think if she knew that is all we have of hers.
