Over thinking things ~

No wonder my head hurt yesterday ~
I figured it out.....

I totally over-think things sometimes.
do you?

I started with this little piece that I hooked yesterday while trying to ease my headache:
it is just a simple fun little design
that I wanted to keep simple & fun...

Antique Heart

then this happened:

a few buttons perhaps?
which led to this:

naaaah.....

how 'bout....

nix.

which of course led me to this...

ugh.

 and finally...
this:

me like....maybe.
 too busy?
 just 'folky' enough?
or just plain too cutesy?
( I don't do cutesy.)

:x
polka dot buttons?
*sigh*.....

there's just  way too much thinking going on over this one....

I want to add some kind of finish to the edge of this too ~
braid? finge? old tattered ribbon or calico?

(((I think I'll remove all of the buttons now and work on the trim instead.)))

wool strips are hand cut with scissors ranging from 1/4" to 1/2" or more...
I love the old look it lends my rugs!

Sooooo ~
I'll get me another cuppa tea and think this one over....

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this one :)

You'll find me in the Shop today & tomorrow....10 - 3:00
....stop on in & warm up by the wood stove :)))

To my family & Friends who have been affected by the snowstorm:
be safe, stay home &
would ya send just a little down here to VA????
{I said a LITTLE!}

  2. I love the wools without the buttons and think an interesting trim/border would be fun. If you did decide to add the buttons, my favorite were the four buttons in the corners IMHO. :)

  3. Not quite sure about the buttons, I love it more "plain" Im a thinking…maybe do the trim and then see if it needs "more"…and yes on the snow, a LITTLE would be nice :) Stay warm my friend xo

  4. lori....I love the colors in this piece....I can see this in your new bathroom when you get it done....I have been trying to think of a way to use it in a "out of the box way".....maybe tacked onto an old crate or wooden box that holds something else.....I too like it plain....but that's just the way I am going these days....I need to be able to rest my eyes when I decorate....can't wait to see what you decide....

Plaid edging. Maybe no buttons if you find the right plaid.

  7. I like no buttons, but I like the plaid trim idea. Maybe some dark buttons to match the trim. Whatever, you will come up with something cute. How's the headache?

  8. I love buttons but prefer this just wool. I agree plaid trim would be cute.

  9. Nix the buttons to busy cutsie... maybe a prim wool tongue edge to mimic the paper lace of doily valentines?

I just dug out of 10" of snow and it's bitterly cold and windy here today... I'll gladly share with ya'! :-)

  10. Maybe the buttons in the corners….you have kinda hooked a spot for them.
Also like it plain. We all know you will "fix" it so cute we will all be saying wow…never thought of doing that. But, don't get a headache from it. Leave it and go back later.
Yes, a little snow in North Carolina would be nice. My girly girls would be very happy. They have new sleds.

  11. ... or, a crocheted calico edge?

I'm hooking today too... too cold to be outdoors...

did I mention how horridly cold it is here today? lol! *sigh*

  12. This sure is a sweet heart. I like one button, now my over thinking it....maybe just one prim wooden heart {Peter could make} dangling in the center.
Thanks for turning my thoughts to hearts...

  13. I too prefer the plain heart (no buttons). Just sent you a separate message with a photo. I tried unsuccessfully to post a comment previously so hope this one gets thru.

Can't wait to see what you decide to do with your cute primitive heart.

  14. I too would prefer no buttons, although it's cute either way but I'm just a plain jane. :-)

  15. I prefer it plain or with the buttons in the corners (if you really want buttons).

    Stay warm! Happy New Year!

  16. I don't think that the buttons really complement the piece. I would be interested to see what a tea-dyed or ecru crocheted lace edging would look like, as long as it matched the background. Just my 2-cents worth.

  17. I like the polka dot buttons. I guess I'm in the minority.

  18. I love the wool edging...not the buttons, too cutsy for me too.

  19. hi lori! I love the hooked heart..especially the different reds. I would put a large button at the top point of the heart. I will send you a little of the 8 inches of snow here and expecting more Sunday!!

  25. I would either go with no buttons at all. Or buttons in the corner - but more "old" looking ones made out of metal... Aside from that - I love the heart - I love heart shaped/themed items!

  27. I love it plain, I love how you put an extra touch of red here & there & the wool around the edges....maybe if you make a ribbon hanging from each corner & attach the ribbon with the buttons ????? It is just so cute ... It is bone chilling here in Western Mass....want some snow, blowing winds & hard packed snow on the roads to slip & slide ??? Don't think so !!!! Keep Warm right where you are !!!!

  28. I like the plain one or the buttons in the corner. Looks great! I can send you some snow too here in Michigan. We have seven inches on the ground...more coming Sunday. Janice

  36. Happy New Year Lori! I live in NC and am new to rug hooking, needle punch, and although I cross stitched my first piece at the age of 8, I have had an off and on again affair with samplers. You mentioned you wouldn't mind some comments on the piece and knowing you are spontaneous with your work and try different applications I thought I would make a suggestion. So, I thought of this: leave the old buttons off, but maybe find some new buttons in silver like you find on Norwegian sweaters, or wooden, or ones to match the background wool and put a heavy amount on only the bottom. Make it into a small across the body purse if it's big enough to hold keys and a little money. Another idea is to work burlap or a belgian colored linen into it such as a huge ruffle around it or something! Anyway just some thoughts. Love your blog and love the new lighter look for your beautiful home. Would love to come visit!

  37. I'm more of plain and prim gal, so I like it without the buttons.

  38. I like the button in the corners or the straight line of them :)

  39. Hi Lori!
Love the rug...stands beautifully on its own without buttons! I like the ideas of topping the lid of a wood box or your edging with braid or calico. It's a beautiful colored heart! Can't wait to see what you do.<3
