I know,...i know....

I'm rushing things, I know...

BUT

the heat has me crazy...
all I want to do is think about this ~

and this:

aaahhh...
...and, this:

here it is, not even August ~
I'm stitching Winter designs,
and dreaming of Autumn...

((am I alone in my madness?))

...or are there others out there
feeling that familiar *twinge*
same as I am?

I guess the new issue of
Country Sampler magazine
hasn't helped me one bit either...
it's chock-ful of wonderful
Fallish decorating ideas....

and something about all of the wonderful primitives
and good antiques at yesterday's show
has whet my appetite for old, true & right things...of Autumn-like hues:
calicos of blue & brown

baskets
coverlets
corn brooms
lanterns
wallpaper boxes
worn dolls...

I will be making a commitment to myself
to only bring into this farmhouse what I truly love...
that,
added with touches of nature
will keep me in the midst of a perpetual Autumn,
... me thinks.

and I will leave you with this favorite quote:

"Delicious Autumn!
My very Soul is wedded to it....
and if I were a bird,
I would fly about the Earth
seeking the successive Autumns!"
~George Eliot

Blessings from the Farm...
Lori

  1. I'm not a huge football fan, but I have been thinking and wishing for it! I do love the SOUND of on the TV... it is comforting & I know it is Fall at the time! :)

  2. You are not alone. Lastnight while up stitching late, I got this strong sense that summer was coming to a close and fall was just around the corner. Maybe it was the light cool breeze blowing in the window. It was kind of nice the feeling.

  3. Lori, it's headed your way. The jar flies are noisy in the night. Chimney swallows have begun their summery dance. Autumn comes knocking when your back is turned from the door. If you drive high up into the mountain around the lake, you can see the red maples that rim it a full month before they grace the lower bottom hills. You will soon have your wish!

  4. Lori, You are not alone in wishing fall here. I do too, although I really like summer vacation - only 4 weeks and we're back to school. Thank goodness Fall is the season when We are back in the classrooms, makes it a little easier. ~Ann

  7. Uh, fall is my favorite season, too, but...gosh, I'm sure it doesn't mean anything...other than...I like autumn best. Right?

  8. Although fall is my most favorite (and - weird - that's one of my most favorite quotes as well), I cannot wish summer away - it is too, too, short here....but I can feel it, smell it, in the breezes floating through....there's a certain tinge to everything, and a ripeness.....as if all of nature is just mature and ready.....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

  13. I can't wait for fall/winter either. I "bloom" in cool/cold weather. Nothing cheers me like a crisp fall morning or a snowy winter day. Ah yes, can't wait : ) I tried joining the samplermakers group posted on your sidebar but when I get there it says I need an invitation & won't let me in. ??? Blessings, Shirlee

  14. I do Love summer except the humidity. But Love fall just as much mostly because of the crisp cool nights and the colors are so beautiful ~ and of course Halloween! As a crafter I'm working on fall and Christmas items so it's hard not to think about it. Awesome pics Lori!

  17. I, too, have turned my thread palette toward the colours of Autumn. It does tend to soothe the soul a bit amidst 100 degree heat.
Thank you for sharing such lovely photographs...Autumn shall arrive in the blink of an eye surely.

    Peaceful stitching...

  20. Lori! I hear ya. I have been working in a daydream of fall with my boots on, favorite sweater and smelling those wonderful crunchy leaves as I sew on pumpkin dolls in this nasty heat! It was really wonderful to meet you in person at the show. YOu are as amazing as your work! I'll plan a date to trek to your farm. Maybe in the Fall and we can go play in the leaves. Yippeeee
