~ Color my World ~

Happy Thursday Friends & Folk!

and a fine cold morning it is here on the farm ~ sunshine & crows woke me up early…
not sure why a whole flock of them were holding court in one of our ancient black walnut trees ~
sounded like they were scolding a member of their clan…
did you know that a 'flock' of crows is actually called a 'murder' of crows?
yep ~ strange but true.

So yesterday Joan & I headed north to Charlottesville, VA.
to a quaint little quilt shop named Cottonwood ~
the shop carries lots of fabrics for quilters, and after I've chose a couple {dozen}
 I always end up over at the wools. NOT that I don't have enough wools either.
quite the contrary…and I know you can all relate!

But, I saw these jewel-toned wools and they jumped right into my basket!
aren't they pretty??

fabulous deep rich goldenrod yellow, spicy pumpkin, mustard gold, spring green…
and of course, that favorite dusty purple color of mine ~

tied up with little ribbons like special gifts just for me!
{did you notice I painted myself a purple sliding lid needle box?}
what is wrong with me… ??

I am now 53 years and 4 days old and I have fallen back under the spell of that magical color purple.
amethyst {my birthstone}
lavender {my favorite herb}
grape {my favorite jam}
lilac {one of my favorite scents}
eggplant {love it, can't eat it anymore :(
fuchsia { bright & happy plant!}
heliotrope {another fav scent}
*sigh*
oh my list can go on & on…

I was entranced with it when I was a child,
then as a teenager growing up in the 70's/80's I left it behind.

when I married Peter, my bridal bouquet included french lavender & purple roses…
some of the petals I still have almost 30 yrs later.
when Hannah was little, I dressed her in purple and although I could not stand to watch him, I admired Barney's outfit. ha!

So here I am now, full-circle back in love ~
with a color.
and ya know what? I'm SO ok with it!
I remember hearing a poem when I wear younger...
here it is:

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.
~ Jenny Joseph

oh how that poem suits me to a "T".
and I am a good spitter!

so although I may not wear purple all of the time, {does eyeshadow & nail polish count??}
~ I shall always try to include a little bit of it in my work…
to say: "hey! look! purple!!"
and hopefully get your creative muse going in a different direction than usual….

I even have a purple-handled-loop-puller!
{yeah, exactly.}

so go on out there, get yourself something purple…
tulips? lipstick? socks? jammies?

let the world know you are fearless and fun ~
because you are!!!

Purple…especially the dark, rich shades like eggplant…have become a favorite of mine in just the last 6 months or so. And there are so many hues! I like the way they coordinate with blues, too. I shall be fearless, dear Lori! Purple on!

Purple - my absolute go to color that I surround myself with. My business cards are purple. I use home made goats soap - lavender. On and on it goes. I will so look forward to every mention of it in your posts! It is in the family of "regal" colors from times long ago. Don't get me started! Just love it.
