~ Needle Love ~

Good Morning Friends & Folk!

sunny & COLD one today ~
… wood stoves are stocked, coffee & tea are brewing :)

I am happy that you liked yesterdays' posting!!!
I'm always interested in other designer's thread/color choices
~ so thought it might be of help to share mine.

I've finished a few little embroidered bits to share with you ~
these are the ones I've been working on lately
{with many more in my basket of tricks}

bowl-ful of stitched goodness

these are small works of heART, as I like to call them…
wearable folk art…folk embroidery
F U N

I don't plan on what to stitch, really…just a passing thought then
I just let my needle & threads dictate to me.

… these aren't quite 'finish' finished though,
they will be made into necklaces & brooches still….
need to add findings and other small accoutrements to bring them to their finality.

'girl in striped skirt'

'bees knees'

'fly away'

'spiro-bloom'

'bowl & poppies'

'leaning tulip'

I've used a mixture of materials for these, wool yarn, wool strips, beads
DMC floss & Valdani perle cottons too.
the fabrics are all from scraps saved from previous projects,
and they are filled with cotton batt, scraps of wool & fabric and a sprinkle of lavender.
{of course, Iggy has to add to my work always, so yes, we do consider cat-hair a usable fiber here}

;)

~ here are the backs,
and you can see how I've pieced together scraps and added my labels ~

* i love them *

I find the act of embroidery to be very fulfilling & freeing...
&
I think I will be adding more folk embroidery to my repertoire of patterns ~
perhaps even PDF downloadable ones too! yippeeeee!

please tell me your thoughts on embroidery…
do you love it? hate it?
something you've done or would like to do?
what fibers do you use?

If you're interested, I have created a group on Facebook called
Humble Work Hand Embroidery
and you can click HERE to request to join us!

also, you can see my Embroidery Folk board on Pinterest by clicking
{but I must warn you….Pinterest is ADDICTING!!!!}

Hoping you all can find some time today to create something beautiful!!!

***UPDATED****
these, and more of my finished humble embroidered-things
will be available at the Winter in the Valley Show on Feb 6th
as well as www.Earlyworkmercantile.net  on Feb 1st and in my Etsy shop :)

Lori I love these. Love embroidery but it is a bit daunting..how do you learn such a gift like this? This is truly a work from your heart. Tiny little stitches..all different come together to create these beauties. How much time has been spent on each of these? Truly you are gifted!where does one start to learn this ? Can I join the group even though I have not done this? I have been seeing your pins for a while of embroidery on pinterest and knew it would soon be in your creations. Just lovely!

I love the brooches and necklaces, I love how you get so inspired and you get it done.

I'm currently obsessed with hand embroidery…but seeing your posts makes me want to break out of the traditional mode more. I really like traditional, but free-form is important for the creator, I think. Just to immerse oneself in the moment of creation. Thank you, Lori.

I just love these and so want the leaning tulip. Will we get a chance to purchase them or are they spoken for? It would like a small part of Notforgotten Farm ( my fairytale second home) in my art studio!! Let us know.

oh, I Love them all, Lori!

Your work has always made me happy ~just looking at these little embroidered bits
of treasures inspires me!

These remind me of the clothes I made for myself growing up in the late 60's and early 70's.
My jeans and overalls, my peasant blouses and everything would be embroidered on every evening ~
your pretty stitches, swirling leaves and flowers, reminds me very much of then.

Yep, I love what you do!

I don't know how you do it, coming up with these "pretties", but I love your work, and the scale and bits and trims on these. Just precious!
They make me smile!
I do love embrodery, but don't do it often.
I have fond memories of my Momma telling me she liked to embroider some.
I never did see anything she finished.

I really really like the girl in striped shirt and the white bird. Do you put these in your online etsy shop?
Lucky gals will get these

I really like to embroidery and need to get back to it, if I didn't have to work I would be busy all day with sewing and embellishments

I admire your work

Yes, I am enjoying embroidery this last year. The satin stitch always gives me grief, never looking good. These little gems you have made look so intricate ., love the colors and the bee skep, my favorite.. Going to join the group if you'll have me, mostly I am a quilter..

I love these, Lori! Very folky and perfectly handmade. :)
I have a question about your labels, as I have been trying to come up with something for my embroidered pillows. Is that twill tape and did you have it printed or use an iron-on transfer of some kind? Thanks!

I have been having a few busy (but wonderful days) and decided to try to catch up on my blog reading. I told myself one more then off to relax and maybe a movie...your post is my last tonight and so glad to be visiting you and the lovely creations. A beautiful way to close the day with. Love the designs and the colors.

Absolutely LOVE these little needleworks! I do enjoy embroidery and would like to do more of it! So, if your handmade pieces sell out before I can purchase one... patterns of them would be appreciated so we can at least give it a go ourselves...

I love your embroideries, they are lovely! And yes, I do love to do embroidery, too. I adore vintage patterns and I like to use many different threads in my embroidery. I often wonder if I have the largest personal collection of embroidery threads, I think it's possible! It's nice to hear about your enthusiasm for embroidery, Lori, I hope it will get others interested in trying it, too!

How adorable. Those are just the cutest and the most unique crafts. I did embroidery once...oh maybe 30+ years ago and it wasn't much but I do have an appreciation of the work that goes into it. Beautiful job!

Dear Lori, I have been begging for embroidery for years and years and years!! Or maybe it just seems that long. I would dearly love some embroidery patterns. Love all of your projects. Lee

I am addicted to embroidery, quilting, and sewing in general. I just adore your little heARts. In fact I adore anything with hearts. I am going to try my hand at making one and see where it goes. I usually give most of my projects away to friends and family. I think receiving a hand made object is a gift of the heart, (there I go again with hearts). Thank you for sharing your beautiful work.
