Two Down, 11 to go & Hooks!

Good Morning Friends & Folk!
and a Happy Thursday to you ~

Sunshine this morning, cold temps but will be warming up enough for me to do a little dyeing today ~
I have linens & wools to overdye and love to hang them on the clothesline in the sun.
{have never been a huge fan of dryers, unless it's snowing/raining and laundry piles are high!}

I finished the Flower Basket stair riser rug yesterday! Yay for me!
I rarely-ever make/create/finish anything for myself…
~ so these will be a treat for me to work on, knowing they will decorate our old farmhouse stairs
{which still need refinishing, but that will come}

I ran out of the black wool for the background of the Flower basket,
so I just added some worms here & there ~ I like the scrappy make-do look of rugs like that :)

yep ~ eleven more to go.

if I hook one riser a month from now till I'm finished,
… that will make it November of 2016 that I should be finished with them all.
but who knows? I never plan anything,
~ so we'll just see when I'm finished & I'll just keep sharing progress here with you!

in fact,
I have already drawn out another and am hooking it!
this is the 'Welcome' riser, and will be the first on the bottom to greet us when we come home ~

and because it's Christmas Time, I chose to hook it in reds/greens & off whites.
~ simple & primitive ~

do you see that divine 'poison' green wool on the right of my frame?
that is the most beautiful, SOFTest wool I have had the pleasure of hooking with ~
I bought it a few years back from Mary Henck {Mary's Wool Garden}
and I am hoping she will have more of this type wool {different colors?} at this coming year's event!
{HINT HINT MARY!}
:)

As promised, here is a look at the beautiful hooks Peter is making for us ~
he's using Cherry & Black Walnut woods too!

I painted all but two of them ~ and I must say I love them ~ hard to choose one!!

hand turned cherry & black walnut handles, painted or natural w/waxed finish

bottom/left: natural black walnut
top/right: natural cherry

bottom/left: farmhouse white
top/right: robin's egg blue

top: tomato red
bottom: mustard

We hope to be offering them soon, as Peter gets more handles turned.
The hooks are either steel or brass, all have brass ferrules and these are FAT hooks!
~ meant for primitive cuts of wool strips sizes 3/4" and up to 1"
and best used when hooking through linen as well…
monks cloth is a little too 'tender' for these I find.

Have a beautiful day my friends,
enjoy some fresh air ~ go for a walk outside!!

Good for you Lori, taking a little time to make something for you! Love the riser, can't wait to see each one as you hook them. Those hooks are wonderful, in those colors and finishes hard to pick just one. Have a great day! ~ronda

I'm with Rose. I love the original wear on the steps. I bought a can of Bee's Wax Old World Formula Furniture Polish last year in Philadelphia and I use it on everything...early paint, cherry, pine. It would work magic on your stairs without messing with the beautiful patina. Love the risers and your plan to hook one a month. Well done!

Lori,The stair risers project is turning out great! (You'll have to think of a clever phrase for the very top riser.) The hooks look fantastic,perfect handles. Robin Blue or Black??...still deciding :-) Nice work, Peter!
Enjoy the day!! ~C
(PS...waiting to be "friended" at FB.)

I'm going to want one of the hooks! The arthritis in my hands make hooking wide strips a challenge. These hooks are my hope to keep doing the wider strips. Love the painted ones in the prim colors. You 2 will forever amaze me! You constantly have me excited about something or another. Love the stair rugs too. Are you going to sell the patterns you design for them? I'd like to try a few.
