Early Morning Farmhouse ~

Up early this morning ~
a reasonably quiet farmhouse
… except for the rain on the tin roof.

Hannah & I went Christmas shopping yesterday.
She wanted to go to Macy's and the mall…I'm happy at Target ;)

Hannah turned 21 on Sunday!!! my baby is 21…how did that happen?

Since Hannah was born so close to Christmas,
we have always tried to keep her birthday completely separate from the holiday…
but that's hard when you're surrounded by Christmas music, movies and decorations everywhere :)
so we make the best of it!

Yesterday while out shopping, Hannah & I picked out a fresh tree to decorate!
we have not had a fresh tree for Christmas since she was 2 yrs old…

it isn't huge ~ or perfect…
but it is beautiful to us:

we began decorating it last evening
with mercury-glass owls…and gold & silver glass ornaments.
We'll continue to decorate it today & tonight :)

It sits in a bucket filled with rocks & water,
and Peter put it down inside my vintage "Honey" Brand Waffle-Cone tin bucket…

the 'other' tree {artificial} will now enjoy being a guest in our tiny dining room…
along with my feather tree you see back there ~ that one stays up year round ;)

when I came upstairs to my sewing room this morning,
this was the view out my window:
our sweet
Esther & Bobby
{a.k.a. 'Mommy & Baaaah-bee}
grazing in the rain…

I'll be here today sitting by our wood stove
and working on the next
Little Stitches Handwork Club model…

I'll share a preview of it once I have a few more stitches in.

Have a beautiful day, my friends…
enjoy the rain or sun or snow wherever you may be.
Be good to yourself and those who love you.

Love your posts. Christmas is a special time of year and if you are born close to that date your birthdays can be overlooked. My mother is born on Christmas day and last year for her ninety birthday we had an open house to honor her 90 years. She told us it was her first birthday party ever, in all those years no one had planned a special birthday celebration for her. I am glad we finally got around to it and told her when she is 95 we will plan for another birthday open house. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

A belated Happy Birthday to Hannah. Mine is on the 26th so I know first hand how to try to keep the celebration of Christmas and a birthday separate. What a beautiful Christmas gift you did get those 21 years ago.

Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas Lori and thanks for all the lovely posts over the past year. I look forward to more in the future.

Love your Christmas post Lori...Happy belated birthday wishes to Hannah! My brother was born on Christmas Day & my dad's birthday is Dec. 13th...and we know too well how 'near Christmas b-days' can get lost in the shuffle. Love your fresh Christmas tree in your waffle bucket...it looks perfect to me! We've not had a (real tree) in 17 years, so boy can I relate & have missed the smell of the fresh pine in the air! Think you've inspired me to get one next year! Continue to enjoy your rest, coveted stitching time & the smells of Christmas as the linger a little longer; wishing you all...a Happy New Year! (ps - so excited to see you'll be coming to my neck of the woods to teach at Ye Country Mercantile in June...YIPPY, I live 30 mins. away!) ~ Diane
