Running with Scissors and Waiting…...

...I recently have been revisiting a handcraft that I have done for many years,
but for some reason or another,
I haven't done in quite a while…

Scherenschnitte ~or~ Papercutting

I am of PA German descent,
and I know that two of my aunts would use their scissors to create in this way ~

...one aunt in particular, aunt Dot (Dorothy)
sat down one day with me and showed me how…
{I was about 9 yrs old at the time}
I loved that she took the time to show me ~ it made me feel 'grown up' :)

Fast forward to the late 1990's and early 2000's ~
I began selling my paper cuts online via Ebay & Etsy, and they were well-received.

Now, I find myself being inspired again,
by the artistry of a new Friend,
Jeri of
...her cuttings, drawing and watercolors are mesmerizing to me.

from her inspiration,
I am doing this:

snip snip
I love to create tiny paper witches…
busy tending their gardens, animals or just their simple silhouettes….

surrounded by vines, with brooms in hand….

...my scissors guide me through the penned lines
as pieces are cut-away to reveal my subjects.

super-sharp scissors in all sizes (say that 3x fast!)

~ These will be framed under glass in my hand painted frames ~

Here are earlier works of mine (below)
that have been sold & are now in private collections ~

I am a proud member of GAP (Guild of American Papercutters)

Look for my new paper cuttings soon,
as I will be offering them again on Ebay & Etsy
They will also be available at the Virginia Rug Fest, and our Spring Open House here at the farm….

AND speaking of farm...
….here is what the whole Farmyard (and us especially) are waiting for:
Minew is so big & round she looks like a basketball dressed in a cat suit!

"get them out….." she has been 'living' in Peter's workshop lately ~ to keep her safe from Mr. Fox!

…. poor baby-mama!
she loves to roll on her back and let us rub that big-belly of hers…

awwww…..

She is at her 9 week gestation, so we are expecting any minute :)
Peter is as nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs ~
(he's never "had" kittens before) haha!

I will keep you updated on Minew's progress…
keep your fingers crossed it will be today?

Have a wonderful day, my Friends ~

* Blessed be *
Lori

Your work in cut paper is lovely. Wouldn't they look even more spectacular in a Tramp Art frame? :-)

As for Minew, she looks like a total LOVE! I hope that all goes well for all concerned with the delivery of her little ones.

Hi Lori,
I love your work...paper cutting seems to be such an exact science in my eyes...one wrong cut and it starts all over. Or am I over thinking this?
Either way they are just lovely.

Oh sweet Minew will be such a good mama - she has had a great mama herself.
Anxious to see her offspring!

Blessings,
Karen

I love your designs in cuttings, really nice look to them. I haven't done any cuttings in years, but I usually do the traditional style and a ship I did, still hangs on my wall. I find it hard to do cuttings with my hands now, but it is a nice craft to do as gifts too so i might start making simpler ones.

Yes, You Do like witches! Love the one in the grained frame, (my husband took over the graining for me, thank goodness)I don't believe I have ever cut out a witch in 26 years of papercutting. Hope Minew has at least 6, that is a nice manageable family for a mommy cat. They will be gorgeous kitties with a mama like that.

As you are inspired, so do you inspire. My head is full of witches today as Mrs. Munson has been asking for a companion...especially at tea.
Sending my best to dear Minew <3

Bright Blessings,

Stacey

Good idea for Minew to be inside, especially being a first time mom. I'm sure they will be the cutest kittens ever. Enjoy! Just like our children they grow up way too fast:)

Love the cuttings and just have to have one of the witches. I was born the day before Halloween and my sister has told me I was a witch my entire life!!I guess I need to roll with it!
