Let the Changes Begin!

OK...
(deep breath)

I am forcing myself to do something
that I have been wanting to do now for the past couple of years ~

I am ging to begin re-styling my farmhouse one room at a time!

I feel my decor is outdated (for me) now,
the darker colors just don't reflect how I 'feel' anymore...

I want lighter, brighter, cleaner and more simple.
let's call it farmhouse fresh! LOL

so, here is the bathroom ~ "before"

when we moved in 10 years ago,
we gutted each room, added sheetrock (and insulation!)

we updated the plumbing (which was nonexistent)
and I chose wall colors to match my still-at-the-time Colonial-inspired mindset.
(don't forget, we moved to VA from CT and I decorated in colonial style)

when we finished remodeling and painting,
I was so happy to have this little farmhouse!
and still am ~
but now
after being here for 10 years
I need a fresher look...

So I will be picking out paint colors for the wainscoting in the bathroom,
with this being the first room on my 'redux' list

in between stitching & designing,
I'll post pics of my progress so you can all follow along with the transformation :)

and speaking of stitching & designing,
I am working on new Valentines Day & Spring themed projects...
OH! don't forget to pick up your copy of the next Primitive Quilts and Projects magazine too ~
I have a little punch needle project in there for you all :)

Keep warm my Friends!

* Blessed be *
Lori

I moved some things out of my Dining room to make room for Christmas guests and my kids thought I had been robbed. LOL! I kinda like the "Less is More" look.

I can not wait to see how you transform your wonderful farmhouse....I am like you, in that I would like to change things, a lighter look, but I am so afraid I won't like it....then what ??? But, I think an old farmhouse like yours looks so pretty in soft whites, neutrals, a bit of old farmhouse color thrown in for good measure....you know, even hundreds of years ago, farm wives were re-decorating, freshening things up, so I say go for it, you might just inspire me too!!!! When I see old white farm house on pinterest, they look just perfect, meant to be........

This is going to be great fun, I love a remodel. Especially when someone else is doing all the work. Looking forward to all the photos. My step daughter hooked the Bee chair pad you designed and gave it to me for Christmas. I am soooo lucky, I love it!!

I can see your bath has a faucet like what we had when I was a child. I´m 78 and love your blog and next trip to my girl in Va I hope to visit your shop.It was a joke when I asked you to meet at Dulles May 2012.
I´m found of primitive and have Primitive Quilting....
I don´t know anything about hooking or punch needle but enjoy stitching and quilting.
Wish you a happy new year.

Interesting to note, my current bathroom décor is on the chopping block as well...I feel that I have outgrown it, and I want a lighter look. I will be curious to see what you come up with.

I know just want you mean about lighting things up.
We renovated our hall bathroom and I used a creamy color on our wainscoting and white walls. It looks really nice with the black hardware. I'll post a picture when finished.

Love the quote , "The only constant - is change" . . . tis so true that we are always evolving and changing. Each day even, is like no other! I get it . . . I feel especially when you live AND work from home things need changing up more often . . . it's like a fire in the britches to re-arrange, repaint, re-decorate . . . it unleashes a creative fire! Enjoy the journey . . . can't wait to see what you do! PS . . . love Behr paint from Home Depot . . . great colors and it had primer in it!!

lori ... a 'new chapter' ...

a couple years ago .. i started feeling the need for more 'light' in my life .. and 'simpler times' .. we removed EVERYTHING from the log cabins .. freshened up with paint and i am putting back 'comfy' things. still prim .. but less 'care'. to enjoy just 'being' while here. i look forward to peeking in on your journey. xo, frannie

Anxious to see each rooms transformation....

Lori, I can't wait to see what you come up with! I too decorated in the darker prim style, and when I moved to a tiny 1 bedroom apartment last year I decided that I wanted to lighten things up. More of a Prim/Prairie/Farmhouse style. Slowly as funds allow, as I am now single and on a disability pension with MS, I have started to evolve!
My bedroom is mainly whites and creams, frames that were black have been painted and primmed to a white or cream with either rusty or silvery touches.i painted my dresser a primmed white and left my desk a natural dark Oak. I rewired 2 lamps, both are glass prism lights, one hanging by my bed and one on my desk. It gives me such peace to go into this lighter, calmer space.

I have also found that by just changing the frames or switching out other knick knacks the whole mood is different. All of my previous stitched treasures, and handmade pieces seem to match this lighter look perfectly.

My living room is a slow work in progress and I am enjoying the journey as each piece of furniture is changed.

One question for you, and anyone else who is considering this lighter look; how do we get these massive black televisions to fit with the lighter look? My living room is too small to hide it in a cabinet, and I think that I am finding it hard to paint my black furniture a lighter color because of this darned tv!

Enjoy your journey Lori, I look forward to watching you work on each room.

Thanks for your comment! ~ glad to see I'm not alone in my wanting to lighten up a bit...Our TV is a huge flat screen that hangs on the wall above our mantel in our living room ~ I am hoping that Peter will build a louvered door cabinet for it and of course I will paint & distress it....
would love to see pics of your bedroom!!!
