Fronica Beiler 1852 Sampler ~

Hi Friends & Folk ~
 I just got the model back from Felicia for my
"Fronica Beiler 1852 Sampler"
~::~*~::~*~::~*~::~*~::~

she's stitched onto my 32ct. Olde Farmhouse Linen
with seasonal shades of DMC threads in ~
Hazelnut Brown (422)
Golden Olive - med. (831)
Beaver Grey - ultra dk. (844)
Red Copper - dk. (918)

I've included an alphabet,
the name
Fronica Beiler
with 'her work 1852'
and the wording reads:
"DIS WORK DONE BY ME - WHEN DIS YOU SEE REMEMBER ME"
and includes numerals 1 - 13...

I was inspired by the beautifully graphic and oh-so-folky PA German Samplers of the past,
and as so, I included some unique motifs...
 like a ladderback chair with woven seat,
a saltbox house with weeping tree and rooster,
2 white & red birds,
2 red birds perched upon a basket of fruit,
and 2 potted flowers in baskets...

I found this old white frame with early, wavy glass whilst out picking one day with my buddy Joan ~
I love how this sampler looks in it ~
like it was framed by an unskilled person
(um, that would be me...I can design & stitch, but I am definitely not a very good framer!)
I love the look of unfinished schoolgirl samplers
and this one looks like one that wasn't quite finished...

the sampler (stitched portion) itself measures approx. 9 1/2" x 15 1/2"
...with a stitch count of 256w x 160h

if you are interested in a pattern, it is $12.00 shipping included.

If you are interested in a kit, which will include one fat 1/4 of my linen, threads and pattern
I can put one together for you for $38.00 shipping included.

To purchase a pattern or a kit,
you can email me at

My Talented Hubby ~

Peter has been helping me get ready for the open house Saturday,
and he has been as busy or even busier than I have been!
We decided to make some xmas trees out of tomoato cages, burlap and calico ~ but they still needed a little 'something' ~ so down to his workshop my little elf went...
and when he came back up, he has these!

beautifully rusty, perfectly patina'd ~ hand cut ornies for those trees!!
(I helped a little by drawing the patterns for them, but Pete did all the hard work!)

folky birds, spools, hearts ~ bells, little stars & bigger stars...
and one 'lone' house...which will have companions today.

and the kicker?
the rusty tin came from a piece of tin that was salvaged from this old farmhouse.
(my Dear Hubby knows what a true make-do is and like me, saves just about everything)
..like I said ~ perfect.

they remind me of Christmas cookies...but please don't take a bite of these...
we'll have home-baked treats on Saturday that you can sink your teeth into :)

Please remember, that the shop will be
CLOSED tomorrow (friday, november 30th) in preparation of the
Open House ~ we'll see you on Saturday morning when our shop doors open at 10:00 am!

Preparing...

....
...preparing for Family to come this week for the Thanksgiving Holiday...
preparing for my little girl to come home from college for a few days...
~ preparing the house for Holidays & Gatherings...
and
preparing the shop for the open house on
December 1st.
SHOP WILL BE CLOSED THIS WEEKEND Nov. 23rd & 24th
so that I may enjoy time with my family...
Shop will also be CLOSED Nov. 30th in prepration of our Open House :)
 I have tons of work to do...
but it will. get. done.
(she says with determination and through gritted teeth)
it will be worth it all to be with family ~ to spend a few quiet hours in a clean farmhouse
before the Holiday rush sets in.

so if you don't hear from me until AFTER Thanksgiving, then you'll know why :)

remember...the LOVE you put into the preparation & planning for the Holidays
is sometimes the biggest gift you could give of yourself,
...so take time to enjoy it!

Gathering & Creating ~

Hello My Friends!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am in the throes of creativity lately ~
readying my larder for our open house on the 1st of December...
to get ready for a couple of weeks worth of marathon creating, I like to gather everything I'll need and place them on my table in arms reach...
scissors, thread & fabric being turned into small doll-sized quilts ~
choosing fabric colors and making tiny stitches fills my heart ~
calicos, small floral prints and primitive, nubby solids.
sharp little pins & scissor blades make handwork easy...
and hand-parched paper, antique quill pens & colored pencils
stand at-the-ready...waiting to become frakturs and small paintings...
perhaps some new 'old' style holiday cards are waiting to be designed?
hmmm...been a while.
...maybe I'll entertain that muse this aft ~
whatever I do, comes from my memories...my love OLD.
any medium works for me and I'm blessed that my hands can create what fills my heart.
but the truest Blessing ~
is that I get to share what I love to do with you!
 HE thinks he's larger than life ~
(well, he is large)
you may adore me now.
 He is constantly posing and grooming ~
always ready for the camera...
and no, he isn't shy.
a little pride would be nice...
really Ig?
 and if you don't like him or how he operates,
then....
.....razzzzberries to you then.
 He will just continue on...Iggy being Iggy.
A Legend in his Own Mind.
Made Famous by me,
his personal photographer.
no shame at all.
LIFE ~ imitates ART ~
Fresh oranges ~ Whole cloves...
the mere scent reminds me of Christmases Past....
so it's no wonder that I love to make
Cloved Orange Pomanders
...come this time of year ~
*
 and I guess I love to make them SO much, that I even paint about making them...
hence, the painting below, that I rendered ca. 2010...
"Peace and Plenty"
original painting by ©L. Brechlin
see thee tiny painted cloves? the ironstone platter?...
my life really does imitate my ART...or maybe it's thee other way 'round??
maybe I get so inspired by my ART that I must create something to replicate it???
who knows...
I just know I'm happy doing either...
an early tin cup full of whole cloves...an ironstonme platter laden with ripe citrus fruit...
so simple yet beautiful and historically acurate for Christmastide Decor ~
(according to Colonial Williamsburg)
Sitting quietly, with a sharp awl ~
...a bowlful of fruit and cupful of cloves is ALL I need
to get me
in the Christmas Spirit ~
been makin' these since I was a little girl ~
 Some of you, that live in our around New England, may have OLD pomanders...
they are usually passed down from generation-to-the-next...
I know I have one that is at least 100 yrs. old...
a cupful of dried orrisroot, some cinnamon & ground clove ~
to dust them all well ~ let them dry by the woodstove...turning them everyday till dry....
 They will shrink...almost by half.
and their skins will become leather-y...which is a goode thing.
after that, you can roll them again in ground cinnamon, orris root and ground clove.
these all act preservatives and will 'save' them for years to come.
I love the scent of orange & clove
and Miss Flea & I cut a BUNCH of fat 1/4's of the NEW Fabrics that I recently recieved today...
do they not look FABulous in that Olde Post Office Box that Peter got last week??
perfect for fat 1/4's...I KNEW it would be!
now I need MORE Fabrics to fill it up completely, but that will happen soon~
put it in front of the counter, so it 'greets' you when you walk in the front door ~
HELLO!!!!!
I could actually use another two or three of these ~
hopefully we can find more !!!
I can't wait to show you all of the simple, farmhouse/primitive 'things' we will be offering you for the Christmas Open House this year...
we are trying to simplify, reuse, recycle and re-do...
plus make original handmade items.
I will be GIVING you ALL a gift in the next couple of days too...
if you visit my blog, are a customer/friend and/or follower ~
I will be gifting you all with a FREE cross stitch pattern soon.
So,
Have a beautiful, relaxing evening my friends ~
