what a glamorous life ~ UPDATE

I sometimes get caught up in my little world of designing & creating...
I imagine new wondrous things to create & share with you, my friends ~

as of late, my mind has been swimming with thoughts of the Ghoultide Gathering show...
seeing all of the wonderful wares created by some on the country's finest artisans...
seeing the folks who create them, dressing up in fun clothing and basking in the hallowe'en glow of all things Magical...
I love what I do and love to share that little glamorous side of my life with you....

then, reality comes ~
on two wheels, doing donuts in my brain and screaching me back into real life.

take this morning, for example....after dreaming of the Ghoultide Preview Party,
((where I am hugging friends from near and far
and thanking them for coming out to the show....rather relishing the limelight))
I woke early, got dressed in a faded black scrub top with Tinker Bell & heart motifs
(I wear these mostly when working around here,
their pockets are deep & wonderful and can hold lots of STUFF...)
a pair of my hubby's green plaid pj bottoms and the nastiest pair of black clogs
anyone has ever witnessed on someone's feet
(these I wear exclusively in the barn...now you know why they're gross)

snapped back into my daily life as a farmwife I headed out to the barn where I found these:

one...two...three???

yep, three little fuzz-buckets ~ all newly hatched within the last 12 hours...
and proud mama hen close by ~
(pardon the poop, but it IS a chicken coop)

...two little blackies and one wearing racing stripes...their colors will change as they grow.

Mama teaches them how to eat by clucking at them in a high pitch...
(I can replicate this clucking on command, so next time you're visiting, have me call the chickens for you!) ha!

heeeeere chickchickchick !!!!!!!

 There is one problem though...
it is late in the season for a hen to have set & hatched a little brood such as this...
the nights can get really cold, even though the little ones clamor under her feathers for warmth,

then I realized that she was actually sitting on a total of  8 eggs...
and went back to the nest box to see this:

5 ice-cold little eggs ~ one partially hatched.....
awwwwwww......

poor babies never had a chance.....

So I scooped them up and was ready to toss them....but then I HEARD something....

the little partially hatched baby was chirping! so I immediately put them all in my pockets
(see, told you they come in handy!) and headed for the farmhouse...

it's alive!!! and KICKING!!!!!

I got the wooden box out that we keep 'newborns' in (and really, that about goes for newborn anything ~ and those that know me well know i MEAN ANYTHING!)
put the heater lamp on top of a piece of chicken wire and warmed them up....

UPDATED monday evening ~
so here is the little one that was half-hatched...
it (she/he?) is now out of it's shell and drying it's tiny feathers off...
drying my feathers...
I already love him (her) and can't leave him alone...
knowing he is strong & a survivor makes me love hime even more...

Hello World!!!!
he's got big feet, whcih leads me to believe that a more masculine name might be suitable...
Hmmm.....what's in a name?/

what big feet you have my dear!

*update cont'.... I will add more pics throughout the eve as he begins to 'come alive' a little more!

So...lesson learned this morning :
yeah, dreaming about being rich & famous is cool ~ but
it is the tiniest little things in our lives that make up the biggest moments...

~ I wouldn't have it any other way.

Blessings from Notforgotten Farm...
Lori

Your new babies are beautiful. I also noticed their coats go with the season............orange and black. How did you do that??

Hi Lori, Even though it is late in the season I think those chickies should be fine. They fully feather out in 6-7 weeks so they will be better able to survive really chilly months of Jan. and Feb. Hopefully, we will have a mild winter for their sake. I've had ones born this time of year do well and I am about 100 miles north of you.

You are such an amazing woman Lori. You are famous in my eyes and if not rich is money, well hell - you are rich in spirit and soul. I say name the little small fry Lazarus.
Hugs from the Virginia short-timer. We or NC bound.

What a precious precious story. Thanks Lori for putting such a huge smile on my face.
Girlfriend, you are something esle. A woman after my own heart!!!!

My oldest dau used to work at the Nature Museum in Dayton, Ohio. One evening she came home and inside her jacket was a bunch of moving "bumps". She had rescued a bunch of baby chicks from the fate of being fed to their snakes!!!!!!
