Remembering Sam ~

It's never easy to say goodbye to a beloved pet...

it breaks our hearts to say goodbye to a little soul
...that has touched us with their love so deeply ~
but
when they are sick or suffering and their quality of life is not there anymore,
the times comes to make a decision...

yesterday was the time.

Sam came into our lives as a weak, flea-infested ball of fur,
that my sister Sharon's dog, Jessy, rescued from the woods...
Sam was severely dehydrated and needed to be hospitalized and put on meds...

He grew into a beautiful, BIG boy that in his prime weighed nearly 23 lbs.
Hannah & he formed a tight bond, and you could see how much he adored her by watching him

follow her around, meowing and purring so loudly at her...

she would dress him up in doll-clothes,
put tiara's on his little head and make him wear crazy things like socks and bonnets...
and he allowed her to becasue he was devoted to her....

He will always be remembered for bringing us joy and laughter,
especially on those occasions when the catnip came out ~

I want to thank Lee & Robin for coming out last night to help me dig Sam's little grave...
he rests now outside Hannah's bedroom window where she can see him,
but more importantly,
where he can keep an eye on her...

Blessings from the Farm...
Lori

I am so sorry for your loss. It is amazing how those furry little critters take hold of our hearts. There is a poem called Rainbow Bridge http://rainbowsbridge.com/poem.htm
that talks of animals and how they wait for their owners. I can't read it without crying . I have tears in my eyes now just thinking of you and your family. May each day get a little easier.

My deepest sympathy is with and your family today. I know how sharp the pain of the loss of a beloved furry family member can be, but as you said in your post the sweet memories of the happy times will always be with you.
God bless...

So sorry for your loss. I'm sure Sam will be missed for a long time. I hope Hannah can find comfort knowing that he is now comfortable...her heart must ache. I don't know if you ever stitch other designers patterns but Pineberry Lane had a beautiful sampler to memorialize a beloved pet. Peace & comfort to your family ~Kriss~

I am also so sorry for your loss, I know your pain, we lost out 14 year old chihuahua 5 months ago. It is still so hard but each day gets a little easier. I hope that it will for you also.

So sorry for your loss. I know you are all hurting so much right now...
We just lost our rescued dog after only 11 short years. We take comfort in the fact that we provided him with a warm & loving home - and more love than any of us imagined -- and he in return, gave that love back in so many delightful ways. Who knows what would have happened to him if he was not taken in, or if he had gone to a family that didn't care for him properly.
I believe you must feel the same way -- what a wonderful life you gave to Sam! And all the happy memories he gave to your family will be with you forever....
My sympathies on your loss....

So sorry about the loss of your beloved Sam. I know that he was a joy to you and you were angels for him. God certainly knows how to bless us with fur friends, does't He? They bring us such joy.

Sam will live on in your heart, I know that all my fur children do!

Oh Lori,
I feel your sadness...we went through that twice and will again before long.
It's never easy but it's like you said, you just don't want them to hurt anymore.

Wishing you - and your family (especially Hannah) peace and comfort. Losing a pet is made so much more difficult by the fact that their love was always unconditional and unstoppable - such little innocents here. Wish you peace in your memories - and comfort in knowing Sam will be looking down from heaven as a sunbeam on you. Hugs ~ Robin

It's always so hard to say goodbye to a family pet.....sorry you had to experience this. My apologies for not visiting sooner...I have not been feeling my best and so many things have been happening, lost my old home town a few weeks ago, it has been very tramatic for all my friends and family, trying to rebuild......
I hope that maybe when my Lupus settles down I can start stitching a few of your patterns!
I do love to come and visit you, your blog has always been a favourite place for me!!!
Hugs,

My heart goes out to you and your family at this very difficult time. We lost an 11 year old cat named Simba in a house fire in Jan. 2010. My kids who are in their 20s cried like babies. He looked alot like your Sam. He also had to put up with the same torture as Sam , namely baby doll clothes and strollers. LOL! May you keep your wonderful memories of him close to your heart. He will watch over Hannah and your family. I will keep you in my prayers.
